QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

Not to pile on (and I barely skimmed all the back and forth on this), but in a situation where there’s a possibility that a 20 year old kid made a gut reaction decision that might not have been entirely thought through (who previously went through how many decimitments in the recruiting process?) and a possibility that the coaching staff did something wrong, are we really going to lean towards putting the blame primarily on the coaches?
No. I tend to think that both are somewhat at fault for the way this ended up.

Twitter was a huge red flag... while you guys were all convincing yourselves he was 'alpha' and a 'competitor', i thought it was plain as day he was 1 foot out the door.
Which suggests it was not manageable as some had hoped (perhaps foolishly, like myself).
Ah well, at least the locker room will be settled. Day also orchestrated the better part of the trade... c'est la vie.
Next time they'll maybe treat it with kid gloves. Not all 19yr olds have Burrow's maturity.
AUTX already asked the follow up to this.

I think the bball game was the final straw. But given how spread out the tweets were ... either nobody 'had a word' with him to set him at ease... or they gave up on that conversation early on and just let him hang himself with it.

I'd go a step further and say that there really is no 'fault' to begin with.
[person], you really mishandled that.
You didn't even try to do [a fix] at all.

So in summation, there was no one at fault.
Nobody was wronged - except maybe the people who convinced themselves that Tate was just super competitive and now bitter about the egg on their face.
Yes, clearly it's egg flakes, not QB uncertainty, that is driving these emotional interactions.

I just want to be clear, if I ever intend to put egg on someone's face, I am sure to use raw egg and not cooked egg. It's a lot easier and more effective as raw eggs are viscous and runny, whereas cooked eggs... well.. they don't really stick at all and you're lucky to maybe get a couple egg flakes on the guy... maybe some yoke, depending on how the egg is cooked... So... Again... eggs on a face should be a raw egg when done properly.

As you were.

I think it raises questions about whether this was simmering beneath the surface.
This January is also the very first time he had a shot to be the QB, and it overlapped with a changing coaching staff (and potential heir at QB). Instead of competing with the talented but not extremely athletic Baldwin, they're bringing in a Terrelle Pryor talent.

I think it's very possible they didn't handle it well, or Tate, or both.

I read this as a Deep Thought by Jack Handey. Another one that comes to mind regarding this situation...

He transferred. It’s over.

What QB uncertainty? I thought everything was perfect.
Still undermining your "read my posts" and "don't stick words in my mouth" soapboxes, I see.
You continue to mix up "gambled" with "missed."

They gambled that it was worth it, and it's a big bet. Everyone saw the Tate fallout coming, with varying opinions on how long it could be held together before exploding. Few thought that Mathis would be a casualty of this but that's recruiting for you.
To which you respond with more canned strawmen:
Ha!!
Just last week everyone was saying how Tate wouldnt transfer, i was stupid for suggesting we'd only keep one, his twitter was just 'alpha' behavior.
This is what I said:
Tate and Justin are unlikely to be teammates. If Tate wins the battle, I'm not sure I see Justin staying. If Justin wins, Tate is definitely not staying (and may be eligible to play right away depending on credits).

Better to keep it in house? Sure, but until he's actually a teammate, it's hard to find too much fault with Tate for being a bit harsh towards a undecided mercenary gunning for his job. Both should be alphas. Once he gets here, if the public chatter dies down, and they both compete, that should be a workable situation
Tate neither quieted nor competed. That's his right.

Do you want a cookie for being right that Tate would leave before spring? Is your hunger for that cookie distorting your perspective with how much egg is visible and how offensive it is to bear?

Despite your adoration of shelled breakfast food references, that really doesn't hurt at all. Imagining a QB room with Baldwin and no one else does (assuming Chud isn't ready and/or transfers).

I suppose I was a little cavalier about the cooked egg... I think I discounted the amount of salt and pepper that would be left on a face if we used a cooked egg... But, while potentially quite the irritant - especially the pepper - I think it's still not 'egg' on the face really. Although, at this point I think we can all agree hard boiled eggs are straight out.
