QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

Excited to see him play more against MSU. His play will be key down the stretch.

Still not sold on him being a top level college QB, though. I get that people are excited to see a natural QB in Meyer's offense, but those same deficiencies from that system are still there honestly you need a mobile talent the likes of DeShaun Watson to cover them up. Tate isn't that level of player. I think @jwinslow summed it up well when he described him, physically, as a walk-on WR with a good arm. That will win most games, and I will take a similar career to JT's in a heart-beat, but it's not getting this team over the hump against what Bama and Clemson are building. It's just circling back to 2015-2017.

I just don't get the rush to move on from Haskins based on fear that Tate might transfer. Haskins is 99% gone anyways and is far from perfect, but he is a generational passing talent that OSU - and most colleges - don't see often, if ever.

I don't get the rush to move on from Haskins. I've always said that I just don't see him going in the top 2 rounds, and none of the mock drafts that I've seen have him there. Haskins was in the running for a December seat in NYC halfway through the season, and it's not his fault that's he's fallen out of the Heisman race. Something happened in the coaching, and when you have a "generational passing talent" you adapt the coaching to it.....not it to the coaching.

when the coaches are the ones who can't adapt their coaching....it only leaves the fans with one option.

I don't think Meyer is "moving on" from Haskins, after all he is still a first year starter and needs time yet to develop. So, if using Martell in the game to help us win is needed then I am all for it. As the backup he needs field time too.
Having said that , I am dubious as to Tate's value due to his height. I sincerely hope that he is capable of playing well enough to overcome it.
Maybe another Fran Tarkington?

....how? Hackenburg was a 2nd round pick for fucks sake. So were Jimmy Clausen and John Beck. I don't see how anyone can possibly rate him as a mid round pick. His production matches his talent. I think he's a late 1st round pick at worst.

The draft is weird. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go top 10 if he heats up to end the season. He certainly has the talent to be the #1 pick. But right now his flaws are exposed and it's clear he would need a year or two before he could start for an NFL team. Not to mention there isn't even a years worth of film on him.

I don't see him falling out of the 2nd round, but it goes back to the age-old question. Do I go now and get a $4-5 million over 4 years, or come back, risk injury, and get paid $25-30 million over 4 years. To me the money isn't the thing, it's the patience of the team that drafts him this year.

And either way, Tate will be a big piece of the offense and would have 2 more years to start afterwards.

The draft is always QB friendly and every QB has flaws. Check out Justin Herbert's game against Arizona this year. A bad game for Dwayne is still 250 yards and a couple TD's. Haskins is absolutely a 1st rounder. The only question is whether he can climb into the top 10

I think we will see Tate come in to finish one or maybe two drives tomorrow. Just to get him some game action. Then I think we see him a lot in a week, and not just in the red zone. I wouldn’t be totally surprised if they march him out there to start the first drive just to fuck with their minds. If Haskins struggles and then we bring in Tate they get a mental advantage. If Tate gets the first drive and he even gets to midfield it will fuck with them. That would loosen up the defense for Haskins.

I'm with Bill. They should be able to run it on Maryland well enough to not need Tate but the coaches might still want him to get some more game reps.

They will need him in The Game.

It would be nice to get a big enough lead on Maryland where Tate could see more than a few reps.
