QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

I feel like we're in good hands next year. He's, obviously, a better runner than Haskins, but may also be a better passer than JT. The best thing that could've happened for him was for Haskins to ball out and move on, although NO ONE could possibly have seen this year's QB performance coming. No way Haskins stays and that clears a potential log jam with the talent behind him and coming up.

Is he running read options or running pre-designed run plays? There were two plays where if he had made the correct read, he scores a TD.
Remember the 3rd and goal where DE crashed down to RB and Tate handed off with a clear lane to end zone. Wrong read. That's ok. He will get it. JT spoiled us as a read option qb. He had a knack of reading defenses quickly and making the right decisions on the fly. Jump pass would work great for Tate since he hasn't attempted a pass near goal line yet and d focus on run

But what if Haskins decides to stay? If he's not a first round pick this year, he will be next. If he stays I'm guessing that Martell moves on to someplace else. Possibly USC.

The general consensus preseason was that he would definitely go pro after this year. With the eternal optimism around this fanbase every summer, some are surely not surprised at his production as the best pure passer in program history on the most talented roster in the conference by far in an era where offensive numbers are constantly rising. Why do you act so shocked?

Next year is a stronger qb class, and he's def graded 1st round this year. You're speaking jibberish.

Tate's going to have his chance next year to set the world on fire.

My two cents; Haskins reveres Troy Smith. He's done Troy's "bull pawing at the turf" from Troy's senior day twice this season (that's been caught on camera). He's tweeted about watching the 2006 edition of The Game a hundred times and "took my notes."

He's only ever stated one thing definitively about his goals: He wants to be "the best to ever do it," at Ohio State. He's already shattered single season QB marks both at the school and for the conference. The only thing that makes him lesser than Troy Smith today is that his name is not on the facade of C Deck as a Heisman Trophy winner.

It may be that simple. Desire to win the Heisman is an impossible goal because it's both subjective to whims of voters and what others do in the seasons you play, but I believe Haskins wants his name and number retired right next to Troy's. It is what has driven him for twelve years. If he wins the Heisman this year then I believe he's gone. If he does not, then all bets are off.

Tate will be electric next year. He is a better runner than JT and a better passer than JT. And his competitiveness is off the freaking charts. I am not worried in the least about Tate taking over this team next year. He has improved every year, especially his passing game, and I am certain he will improve a ton this off season while taking the reps with the 1s. We are in good hands with Tate.

I'm not surprised that he's been successful (I wanted him over Burrow), but I'd have a hard time believing anyone who says he projected this type of production.

Better runner and passer than JT? Maybe someday but I’ll have to see a lot more before I would agree. Barrett had plenty of weaknesses but the guy set single season and career records while here. And I honestly cannot remember ever seeing any QB anywhere that did the read option better than Barrett. And if you needed a tough yard....DAMN he was hard to stop. Sometimes he was maddening but the guy was still amazing in what he did.
