QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

Haven't read the last few pages, but personally I'm very high on Tate. Most evaluators seem to agree that he has elite accuracy, pocket presence, footwork, and a great release. His arm strength is good but not elite, but the biggest knock on him is his size.
Moreover, the kid is a straight-up winner, and he enrolled early to learn the playbook and start working on football as soon as he could.

Personally, I think if the accuracy and the (personal) drive are there, the results will follow. As Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, Doug Flutie, Kellen Moore, and my personal favorite Troy Smith showed, size isn't everything.

Meyer played Burrow this season and not Haskins, so that should tell you something right there. And it doesn't matter if Haskins is going into year three next season (2018), it matters who is the better QB. Could be him, could be Burrow, could be Martell. If Tate Martell is the better prepared QB in the eyes of Meyer, then he'll start, regardless of whether Burrow has two years on him or Haskins has a year on him.

It tells me Meyer didn't want to uselessly use a year of eligibility for Haskins in meaningless time. There was zero to be gained by giving Haskins any time this year.

And as a true Frosh, Burrow should've been better this year with time at the collegiate level.

I like Burrow and his ability, I just think the timing ultimately hurts his opportunity to get on the field. But I wouldn't gauge anything on Haskins taking a RS at all...

If he was better than Burrow in the eyes of the staff, then having him, instead of Burrow, get game-time reps to be prepared in case of injury to Barrett is in no way "a waste of time."

I have never hid my feelings on how great I think Martell can be. However, the doubts as to immediate playing time are not without merit. I seriously think Burrow can be an absolute star here, particularly under Wilson/Day. Then again, Haskins is an incredible talent and could be too good to keep off the field. Then again, Martell is so dynamic and such a great leader/winner, that he could push to get on the field. And yeah, you have maybe the best QB in '18 coming in right on Tate's heals. But these are all privileges, not problems. It is fun to talk about but I just see no way we are not the best positioned team in the country for the next 3-4 years when it comes to the QB position.

As it relates to Tate, I understand the concerns voiced for sure. I just think that he will overcome all those concerns and be extremely fun to watch here.

May be you should stop with the negative prediction then?? You can't say that you are not criticizing the kid and then add all the "Ifs" and "Buts" about him in the same sentence. Even if you are right, what good does that do??

Just support the young man and let his work ethics, determination and skill set play out.

Go Bucks!
I'm sorry Mrs. Martell.

So let me get this straight - pointing out that there are really good players in front of him and likely coming behind him, that he is short for the position, and that he has ample confidence is criticism?

First, he will never read this, and if he does and cares, he will need a safe space if he ever does play. Being a QB at Ohio State comes with some scrutiny.

Lighten up just a tad. I stated my opinion based on what I've observed. But I don't take that opinion too seriously. You shouldn't either.

The kid had a 41/1 TD/INT ratio, against the best competition in the country, and lit it up during his time at the Army AA game, despite his lack of height...not to mention National Gatorade Offensive Player of the Year. I'd say he's pretty damn good.

No one here is saying he's guaranteed to get immediate playing time...it's pretty clear that he's going to be fourth on the totem pole going into spring camp. I personally think Tate likely redshirts this year, but will seriously be in the mix for the 2018 season after Barrett is gone...

Agree.

One thing to consider for next year is (during Fiesta Bowl interviews) Urban saying he was disappointed that Haskins didn't beat Burrow out for the job & didn't have a great year until bowl
practices.

The loser of Burrows vs Haskins will leave. That's just how it will play out. Both are good enough to start at many other schools.
Martell might not stick around either. He has a history of being impatient with waiting his turn. And who could blame him?
Jones could de-commit. Teams will be recruiting him up until he signs.
The point is a lot could and will change.

No apology to me is needed, "mostly confused" son.

Criticizing a Buckeye before he even had a chance to practice comes with scrutiny too.

I based my opinion of you after what I have observed as well...so you need to lighten up too??
