QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

And where does Burrow fit into this?

Assuming Barrett starts next year, you'll have Haskins going into year 3 next year. Haskins has a lot more natural talent than Joey IMO and he'll have enough practice reps that I think they go with the livelier arm and electric talent.

You had former NFL players talking about what a stud Haskins is going to be after seeing him in bowl practice. I think that carries some weight....the kid has elite talent.

If Burrow is going to make noise I think he needs to grab Wilsons attention this spring and off-season. I've said it before but I hope the coaching staff is applying some pressure on JT to keep his job, and not just handing him the reigns based on seniority.

I'm not going to criticize this kid. I hope he becomes a great Buckeye. But for football and non-football reasons, I don't think he will ever take a meaningful snap at Ohio State as a QB. If I'm wrong, then ridicule me 2-5 years from now. But right now, that's what I think.

Can't say this above sentiment has not crossed my mind quite a few times.

I've had that thought as well. It is in no way a knock on Tate. I think after this season, the job is Burrow's or Haskins'. Then, I think Emory Jones comes in with a year under his belt on the team. It has more to do with how highly I think of Emory than me thinking less of Tate. In the end, what I think doesn't matter. Tate can force his way on to the field. He is more than capable. It wouldn't shock me one bit.

The kid has all the talent in the world but these guys that seem to make multiple, changing, commitments seem to have a history of often flaming out.

Meyer played Burrow this season and not Haskins, so that should tell you something right there. And it doesn't matter if Haskins is going into year three next season (2018), it matters who is the better QB. Could be him, could be Burrow, could be Martell. If Tate Martell is the better prepared QB in the eyes of Meyer, then he'll start, regardless of whether Burrow has two years on him or Haskins has a year on him.

Absolutely true. Experience would certainly favor Haskins and Burrow. If it's a tie, play the younger guy, which would be Martell. I think we just assume that with the experience of Haskins and Burrow, it won't be a tie (with Martell.) Martell proving us wrong would be nice, if only because Burrow seems to be a more than competent backup to Barrett, so if Martell comes in and passes him, it won't be as disappointing for Burrow, as it would be impressive for Tate.

Then there's that Emory Jones guy coming in next year...

Needless to say, whoever starts in 2018, will have earned it.

Well, it's not like I have a great history of predicting the success of recruits. I thought Dontre Wilson was going to be an all-time great. So...

May be you should stop with the negative prediction then?? You can't say that you are not criticizing the kid and then add all the "Ifs" and "Buts" about him in the same sentence. Even if you are right, what good does that do??

Just support the young man and let his work ethics, determination and skill set play out.

Go Bucks!

Three straight high school NCs, Never lost a game. National player of the year, etc. No doubt that this kid is a winner. Would he be successful in a traditional drop-back system at this level? Probably not. That's not where his strength is and it would be stupid to try to force that. Fortunately, we now have a successful OC who has shown that he can change his system to match the talent he has. JTB finishes up with Burrow and Haskins getting time at least through the middle of next season. Tate sits one year and either waits his turn and competes with Jones or blows everyone away and jumps those two. I think he'll get an honest shot and I think it will work out. Sure he's more of a Welker/Edelman than a Brady, but that's waaay down the road.

Just sayin': Stephen Collier could be in the mix too, he could still be here in 2018 (and maybe even 2019 with a additional "medical redshirt" 6th year). Regardless competition (at all positions) is a good thing and may the best QB get the playing time.
