QB Rob Schoenhoft (official thread)

I agree. Very impressive StarBucks!

If you look back at the first couple pages here, it seems that most people weren't sold on Robbie either coming in here as a QB or being able to play the position at this level. Very interesting at this point in time to say the least.

Really?

There are a few st x. people on this web site and I think if most answered objectively they'd tell you that Robbie's better position in high school was when he played TE as sophomore.

I don't see this as a bad thing. Robbie is a big kid and a fine athlete.

Rob was a WR as a sophomore, he only played TE after being pulled at QB for a short time his junior year. It wasn't really enough to evaluate his abilities there, although obviously he has the body and potential for it. Hopefully Rob will come into his own and be successful in football, whether at QB or TE. After his junior year in HS, he busted his ass in the offseason to get better, throwing with his receivers seemingly any time he could get his hands on a football. Hopefully this offseason is a fruitful one for him.

I actually LOVE this move. Get the best athletes on the field...I like Nicol and Ballard...but Robbie might give the offense another threat catching the ball from the Big Speed position.

Well just because he's being moved doesn't mean he's on the level of those two,or that he will even get on the field before Brandon Smith. No inside info of course, but I think it had more to do with the qb situation because Ohio State isn't exactly hurting for TEs.

It does set up the 4 tight end set w/ just Whaley in the backfield though.

I'll get dinged for this now but I'll put it out there. What if Henton is the man and TP comes on board? Schoenhoft is: big, good hands basketball guy, tendency to run, loves OSU and a team player. OSU is a little thin at TE. It could happen. I wanted to post it first but I haven't remembered my password for about 10 months. Ozone beat me two it a couple of weeks ago in the Buckeye Watch "12:56 Schoenhoft tucks and takes off for 16 yards on third and ten. Very nice. We need to put him at tight end and run some middle screens with him." but I have been thinking it for a year now. Trust me:wink2:

I know you all want my lottery picks now. My suggestion - pick numbers above 31. Many people bet birthdays so even though selection is a random distrobution payout is not. You have a much lower chance of duplicate winners with numbers above 31. Never bet 1-2-3-4-5. The other implication here is does this mean we have TP on board? Probably discussion for the rumor mill. I hope all the best for Schoenhoft.

What is it going to say about our program that we couldn't turn an Elite 11 QB into even a second-string grade quarterback?

Just for the record - and given that per the above post he has not changed position - I took a very quick look at past recruits. I grabbed 2003 and had to scan to the 5th and 6th rated recruits to find -

Tommy Grady - #5 rated QB prospect in 2003. Went to Oklahoma. Transferred to Utah. Threw 14 passes last year. Played in 5 games this year as a Senior.

Robert Lane - #6 rated QB in the same class. Started 8 games last year. Four at TE, two at FB, two at H-Back.

I didn't look any further.

Classic case of grooming for the position IMO :tongue2: - and reportedly Cutcliffe has his hooks in Pryor?
(Unless that is he goes off to coach Duke, whose only prior contact with QB greatness was having Heisman Steve Spurrier as HC, to new heights - as in a conference win).

I've been waiting for this move for a while now as well. robbie seems like a good kid and I wish him nothing but the best, but despite his great measureables and strong arm, he just doesn't have it as a qb. I got the same feeling watching him as I did with zwick. I remember being back at the 'shoe in 2002 and watching the qb's warm up, and not believing that zwick was the hyped one and smith the largely unknown. all you had to do was watch them throw the ball to the receivers.

while zwick threw soft, wobbly balls, schoenhoft just puts all his balls at people's feet. he threw a couple darts this season, specifically to the tight ends, but if you were to go back and look at all his throws, I would say at least half were uncatchable because they didnt even get there, like a pitcher throwing a 55 foot fastball.

I'm certainly not trying to bash anybody, and I've got love for all buckeyes, but my point - which is getting further and further off topic - is that I think a lot of times we all watch these kids with blinders on as to what we wanted them to be or thought they would be or think they could be, and don't use quite enough common sense as to what they're actually producing on the field.

anyway, that's it. best of luck to robbie. go bucks!

Well, to me at least, it came across as a great post, and I agree with ya.

Backup QB Schoenhoft playing tight end on scout team

Friday, December 14, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus -- LSU won the SEC title game with backup Ryan Perrilloux at quarterback. Other top 10 teams from West Virginia to Southern Cal to Oklahoma to Virginia Tech have been forced to use their No. 2 quarterbacks at times this year.
So what is Ohio State doing playing its backup quarterback at . . . tight end?
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel confirmed Thursday what had been an Internet message board rumor, that sophomore quarterback Rob Schoenhoft has been working at tight end during bowl practice. Tressel said the 6-6, 244-pound Schoenhoft has been helping out at tight end on the scout team, and Schoenhoft's mother, Debbie, said Thursday she believed that came about in part because of an injury to starting tight end Rory Nicol.

Cont...

"Schoenhoft is looking great," defensive tackle Doug Worthington said. "He's taking the change well. There's still a possibility of moving back [to quarterback], but he's trying to help the team and I commend him for that, because a lot of people would get down and not want to work. But he's still working hard on scout team."
