QB Rob Schoenhoft (official thread)

Glad to hear it...I must admit I am one of the guys who was on the Sanchez bandwagon about a week ago. But after reading up a ton on RS this week, I must say I like the upside he has. Glad to hear he is staying at home and playing for the Buckeyes!

Sounds good to me. It's funny how some were not as enamored with him initially since he's from Ohio and said he was a Michigan fan, myself included. It's nice to see him pick us and hopefully have some great games against the piss and blew.

I am a bit disappointed that folks in general have not been more enthusiastic about Rob. When we got Zwick you would have thought it was the second coming, but nationally he was ranked about the same and both were Elite 11. Maybe it is a combo of the Michigan thing and all the hoopla over Sanchez - along with a few naysayers about his ability (I don't think Zwick had many of those).

I thought I heard OSU was going after two QBs in this class. Any ideas who the second might be now?

You are right about that Oh8ch...I think alot of people, myself included to some degree, got caught up in the Sanchez hoopla. I never thought Rob wasn't a great QB, but the idea of Sanchez was just too good to be true. In the end, I think it's great that we are getting an Elite 11, in-state QB from an area that hasn't been the most Buckeye-friendly recently (just thinking back to Deshawn Wynn and Ray Edwards).

Nice to see OSU get a kid from the Cincy area as well. There are exceptions of course - BUT - it seems like the Buckeyes are always recruiting up hill in that part of So. Ohio. I guess the local media has something to do with it, but lets hope this is a sign of things to come.

Welcome aboard Rob, LET'S GO BUCKS!

Guilty as charged also.

Physically there's no question he's talented. I just wonder how far along he is mentally at this point in time seeing how he hasn't completed a full season under center.

Bingo - I had really hoped for Sanchez, but Rob has more size and a much better arm than Mark. With proper coaching and time, Rob could be the better QB.

Let's hope Rob does some recruiting for the Bucks, just like Zwick a few years ago. First calls should be to top WR's Andre Amos and Selwyn Lymon, each of whom was a Michigan fan growing up (just like Rob was).

Welcome aboard, Rob!

I think that's a fair question but with Zwick, Smith and Boeckman in the fold he should have plenty of time to soak up the offense. It's all about potential right now and Rob has plenty of it. I like the pickup.

I imagine that part of the reason why people were so unreservedly enthusiastic about the signing of Zwick, vs. Schoenhoft, is HS stats. Schoenhofts passing stats are not eye-popping, and I think he's highly prized based more on physical characteristics. By contrast, Zwick had the prototypical QB physique, but also had huge numbers coming out of HS.

Great point. I wonder what the attitude will be like if Rob puts up great numbers this year. I would love to see him more in that 65% completion range this year. Another year of 20/5 would be nice too. That would definitely get people hopping on the Schoenhoft bandwagon, myself included.

Big frame on this kid....he is bigger than both Zwick and Smith right? How about Boeckman?

There was some talk about Rob being moved to TE...obviously just about anything is a possibility this early without getting him into the huddle...but a question for those who have seen him:

Is that just some uninformed internet coaches posting conspiracy theories or do you think there is a very real (could go either way) chance he ends up at TE? IMO the depth chart would give him a year or two more at QB than he might see at TE. Hard to imagine an Elite 11 QB being moved unless there is some MAJOR talent in the same class (see Smith or Zwick once the depth chart is finalized)

TIA for the insight.

I can tell you that Rob has made his Buckeye loving parents very happy with HIS decision. Eventhough he may have liked Michigan he still grew up in a house that supported the Buckeyes.

Rob's mother and my wife's step-mother are cousins so I've been following his progress for a little over three years. I was a little worried that due to his stats that the major D1 schools would overlook him and Miami (OH) where his dad played would grab their next Ben R.
