QB Quinn Ewers (transfer to Texas)

What does the black stripe mean?

All incoming freshmen have a black stripe on their helmets. All of them have to earn the right to get the stripe removed, revealing the usual red stripe that runs down our helmets. You earn that right by doing the right things, whatever that may be, which presumably includes having a good attitude, working hard, etc. You're not considered "part of the team" until you get the stripe removed. It's basically a way to de-recruit each player who joins the team.

Reading the bit that says that some of his NIL money next year ‘requires’ him to be starting games, I think that’s a poor word choice, the sponsors can’t force him to be named the starter. I’ll wager it’s more accurate (and more clearly understood) to say that the NIL money is contingent upon him starting, so he realized he’d probably need to be somewhere else next year to be eligible for that NIL money.

Going to be hilarious when a used car dealer in Ohio is contractually obligated to pay an 18-year Texas kid to start CFB games at a Texas university.

Hmmm, oh well

Astounds me so many were knighting this kid like he was guaranteed to be a HOFer. He is a great prospect, that's it. We have a QB, who honestly until last week, had a good crack at a freaking Heisman. Sooo many OSU fans are sour on Stroud, it's so dumb. We sure have been spoiled. Stroud isn't Fields AS A FRESHMAN, and it's like people act like he's a bum. Stroud somehow does not get a fair shake here.

It is disappointing to see Ewers, who already bailed on one commit, do it again, before ever really stepping foot on a field in college. I do think it's a weak move BUT, he is a young kid. I wish him the best of luck, but we will be just fine.

Yeah. I doubt he tried to "strong arm" Ryan Day. He probably just realized his NIL was going to dry up if he stayed, so he told Day why he was leaving.

There doesn't always have to be a bad guy.

100x This. Sometimes two parties enter an agreement with the best intentions, and for *reasons* it doesn’t work out. We’re just on the wrong end of the Justin Fields/Kirby Smart equation in this one.

It’s a blow to the QB room depth chart, but the biggest loser here is Rick Ricart, so… silver linings and schadenfreude and all of that. Fuck that guy and Kirk Barton.

I like Austin Ward, won’t hammer him for the reporting here - all of this is new, and messy.

But L O L at “Ewers reps”…kid should be going to prom in a couple months and he’s got “reps” managing his situation. Not mad at it…This is a wild time in this sport.

(and I say that as someone who follows Euro soccer with kids emerging in academies at 13. Times are changing fast.)
