QB Quinn Ewers (transfer to Texas)

So let me get this straight. OSU has played a hand in a string of highly successful QBs including one right now in his RS freshman year.

The once crowded QB room has seen 2 players enter the portal and yet we STILL need to be worried about McCord. I mean how fucked up is that? If I have to worry about shit like that then I’ll lose all interest in the sport.

I mean……c’mon man. Think about what you are saying for a minute.
Hu? All I said is we better hope McCord stays and we should.

Having 1 scholarship QB would be um not ideal?

So yeah we should all hope McCord sticks it out. Because we won't get Justin Fields this time from the portal. Not with CJ still here for a year.

At best its a guy like Chugs who is solid.

So then what happens if there's a situation next season if we need a QB for an extended period? Turning to a true freshmen or a average transfer would yeah not be fantastic.

Well, if he came into college as late as he did and expected to win the job... well... not exactly a reasonable expectation
Also seeing that he should still be in High School now. Yes, unreasonable to think he would be the starter at Ohio State over another elite QB who was learning the system for a year. I don't think he was getting sound advice. But he was getting paid.

Really trying to strong arm Ryan Day? Haha

So he came here thinking he'd start within 2 years when Stroud was clearly the #1?

LOL.
Stroud was not clearly a multi-year starter and Heisman candidate in July/August and so was not "clearly the #1." Circumstances have changed since then. And I don't see anyone trying to strong arm anyone. I see it more as Quinn giving Coach Day a way to prevent the portal jump but I don't think the portal decision is a major surprise to anyone in the program at this point. Rico's time is now!!!

In hindsight, he picked tOSU for a couple of reasons, Ryan Day’s offense and the state of Ohio having better NIL laws than Texas.

Reading the bit that says that some of his NIL money next year ‘requires’ him to be starting games, I think that’s a poor word choice, the sponsors can’t force him to be named the starter. I’ll wager it’s more accurate (and more clearly understood) to say that the NIL money is contingent upon him starting, so he realized he’d probably need to be somewhere else next year to be eligible for that NIL money.

Yeah. I doubt he tried to "strong arm" Ryan Day. He probably just realized his NIL was going to dry up if he stayed, so he told Day why he was leaving.

There doesn't always have to be a bad guy.

It would be interesting if this will hurt his chances of transferring if one of the conditions he puts on his new coach is the guarantee that he has to start a certain number of games next year. There are some desperate coaches out there. Are they desperate enough to let the players make out the depth charts?
Or

He'll just choose a place where he has a likelihood of winning the job. You know.....in a non-nefarious kind of way.

If he signed a contract that stipulates he start a certain numbers of games and didn't, would he be in violation of that contract and have to give back any NIL money? Would starting at North Texas State be good enough?
