QB Quinn Ewers (transfer to Texas)

All incoming freshmen have a black stripe on their helmets. All of them have to earn the right to get the stripe removed, revealing the usual red stripe that runs down our helmets. You earn that right by doing the right things, whatever that may be, which presumably includes having a good attitude, working hard, etc. You're not considered "part of the team" until you get the stripe removed. It's basically a way to de-recruit each player who joins the team.

that’s pretty cool!

how long does this go back? Is it a Tressell thing? A Woody thing?

I thought the “Black stripe” was cool when it started, I loved the Buckeye leaves reward for good play and commitment to team but after this year I m not sure. For team members not in the NFL and NIL kingdom they probably still have a lot of value but for the elite it’s $$$ and getting NFL ready. Ewers played in the game with a Black Stripe..I sincerely believe he wasn’t thinking of that.

Let him go. Sometimes, a kid just telegraphs that he's going to cause problems during the recruitment. I felt that way about Pryor, and I felt that way about Ewers.

Clearly walked in here with a sense of entitlement that he'd be handed the reigns next year and can't stomach having to wait an extra year and then earn the job. I've never expressed any animosity to other QB's who've transferred out for legit reasons, but this case stinks of grandiose self-interest and entitlement. He'll be perfect at Texas.

If he's still considered a Buckeye, and this opinion is considered bashing. Please delete with my apologies.

I fucking LOVE this. Seriously. Day recruits and lands Jesus Texas Himself and explains the system, development, and the QB room. Then JTH and family decide they need to get that money and want to reclassify. Day doesn’t like it, but he works with them and says that coming in early doesn’t change anything, it may actually be harder, but it’s an opportunity to develop and then thrive. JTH still comes in thinking he’s going to run the show, even though he’s a high school senior who missed all of summer practice, and has sand in his pussy about having to do exactly what Day told him he would have to do and leaves. Good. THE Ohio State University didn’t kneel to blow this kid. As ORD always has said, nothing and no one is bigger than the University (not Tress, not Urban, not MoC…). I’m not sure that’s true elsewhere. To paraphrase Colonel Jessup, we use words like Honor & Defend because they mean something. You use them as a punchline. I’d prefer you just said thank you and went about your way. I fucking love it.

Yes, he’s still considered a Buckeye, he did actually play in a game, even if it was a token appearance.

But I don’t think your opinion is bashing. I’m not sure of the level of his sense of entitlement, I think he’s leaving mainly due to his need to be a starter to get NIL money, which certainly falls in the self-interest category. How much his wanting to leave is due to his ego, his impatience, or his sense of entitlement - I have no idea, but I don’t think mentioning those possibilities falls into the realm of bashing.
