I don’t care that he chose to go somewhere else. That’s what the transfer portal is about. Clearly, Ohio State was not right for him and that’s fine; actually, better for all parties that he do it now, I think. My issue is the way that it was handled, a subtle distinction, perhaps, but distinct nonetheless. I like that the staff, apparently, stuck to its guns about how the room is run and the importance of the team. Ultimately, that pays bigger dividends than making an exception for a generational talent. If you won’t make an exception for Ewers (and I imagine that a lot of teams would), I think that says a lot and is consistent with Day’s recruiting narrative. I also think it probably meant a lot to McCord, whom we desperately need to stay on board. That’s my point. I hope Ewers goes on an does well or not, I don’t care. I’m not shit talking him personally, but it’s fair to call out the circumstances as one sees them. That’s past, so I’m done.
