QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

WTF else could he possibly say after the Buckeyes got their ass handed to them in Madison?

He's just the messenger, the game was the deciding factor.

Wiscy dominated the first 17 minutes. Outscoring them 18-10 the rest of the way and having almost 100 yards more total offense during that time, in that hostile of an environment, says a lot about the talent and resiliency of the Buckeyes. Wiscy's fast start masked the overall competitiveness of the game as a whole. Seeing as the game was played at their place, literally in the dead middle of the season, the head-to-head aspect loses a lot of its impact. So, yeah, Wiscy has no business being ranked ahead of us when we're 12-1 with us winning our BCS game and they're 11-2 with them losing their BCS game.

What gets me is that he has Wiscy>OSU, but has LSU>Arky.

Why is LSU higher than Arky when Arky won the head-to-head matchup? If he was being unbiased to Ohio State, then he should of put Arky above LSU too, since Arky had the same record, and won the head-to-head.

Just don't worry about him. He is what he is and that's that. Is it sad? Yeah, kinda... does it really change anything? Nope.

Honestly, the only thing it changes is the fact that I'd not cross the street to say hello to him if I saw him here in Chicago. He really just doesn't matter anymore. Just doesn't matter.

So Ohio State beating Arkansas and Wiscy LOSING to TCU doesnt count??
This was his Final poll, not the week after we lost to Wiscy...

Yeah, it counts, on at least one day TCU was better than a team that beat OSU.

They played a much smarter game, they backed the Wiscy corners off, they got to the Wiscy QB, for whatever reason they made Wiscy go away from their strengths, they didn't give up big plays on special teams. Those are all things that the Buckeyes couldn't do.

Further, in the context of what happened to Big Ten teams on Jan 1 you have to look at the conference games and wonder just what OSU accomplished. You are no better than your strongest opponent, something to think about as you root for Michigan's demise.

Oh, and obviously that saw cuts across many grains, Auburn 2004.

You want to be ranked higher, take care of business.

...and the LSU-Arkansas question?

Cinci, I get that you like to play the board contrarian, but this is a pretty bizarre argument.

Which makes a bowl win over an SEC team an even harder factor to ignore, though you are doing a fine job of sidestepping it.

They did, they won their bowl game and were rewarded with a 3 game slide in the rankings, the same that Wisconsin was given for losing their bowl game.

So has this douchebag been anywhere to explain this other than "I was half asleep?"

Hooley said they were going to try and get him on the following day (Wednesday) but Scott Torgerson (97.1 the fan) e mailed me that Herbie "won't come on."

That says it all right there. His ass won't come on in Columbus and answer questions about his vote because he knows why he did it.

He wasn't half asleep. Hooley half heartedly tried to defend Herbstreit on Tuesday but even he knew it was bull [Mark May]. You could hear it. Waits until the last 5 minutes of his show to talk about it. "I just think my man was in a fog from being up all night."

Horse [Mark May]. Herbstreit and his boy Fowler were trying to make some sort of a statement. Fine, you made your statement. He should be persona non grata at the WHAC from here on out.

Captain Kirk - 0 gold pants, 0 Big 10 titles, 0 bowl wins, 1 SEC win

TP - 3 pairs of gold pants, 3 Big 10 titles, 3 BCS bowl games (2-1 record) w/2 BCS MVP awards, 1 SEC win

That about sums it up for Captain Kirk.

Kirk "Herbie The Homer 'I'm For Anybody But Ohio State' Herbstreit":oh:!!!

Herbie is more of a Buckeye than anybody on here. People are ridiculous on here sometimes. I've never heard Herbie outright put down a Buckeye. Most of the stuff he said about Pryor is pretty much true. Kid needs to mature and he admitted it his self.

Because the rest of the Big 10 champions did not come through.

You guys love to knock the Big East, Pac 10, Big 12, ACC teams and talk about the loose rules that govern the SEC, their academic standards and their arrogant conference wide pride -- I do too.

But then you also want to crap on Michigan and the rest of the Big 10 and diminish them in terms of what they accomplish and when their failures fail to float Ohio State's status at the end of the season you want to blame it on Herbie and the talking heads at ESPN.

That's bullshit, pure and simple.

And during that discussion of how Ohio State slipped despite a "mighty victory" I somehow end up being "the contrarian."

How about this: You/I, as Buckeye fans, have to have the Bucks come through -- and the last two years they did -- but that has to be accompanied by a strong showing by the rest of the Big 10 top tier.

So I grant you that the Buckeyes upheld their end of the bargain, but the rest of the conference laid a rotten egg this year.

It's simple: The Bucks need conference strength to lend validity to what the Bucks do between September and January. The top tier of the Big 10, minus the Bucks failed to come through. What else are NATIONAL reporters supposed to think?

BTW, that's why I'm always on here suggesting that if the BCS series is going to determine the EOY rankings, then those games need to be "geographically neutral" - a concept the bobble heads in charge of the Big 10 seem to ignore. Witness, no night games in November and our CCG will be played in a building better suited to basketball, rodeos and tractor pulls than football.

SEC!,SEC!, SEC! is not as stupid as many of you seem to think it is. It is an acknowledgement by the collective schools of the fact that any conference team in an OOC/bowl game REPRESENTS the conference.

A Michigan/Illinois/Iowa/MSU/Wisconisn win only adds luster to what the Bucks achieve.

I can't tell you how pissed I am that Wiscy played a miserable game, or that the two Michigan's shit the sheets -- but if you're a national observer -- as opposed to an Ohio State observer -- you have to take conference performance into consideration -- and if a bogus TCU, BSU, BYU team beats your top tier teams then you have to live with the reality that the polls will reflect that. (go back and look at YOUR reactions to Michigan's losses to App State and Toledo)

Auburn, Alabama & LSU came through while Wisconsin lost to a non BCS team, Michigan State got knocked into the MAC and Michigan played like they wanted to see their coach get fired.

Oh, and with less than two minutes to go and the ball in Arkansas hands on the on the OSU 20 which team did you think was going to win the Sugar Bowl?

The way the Bucks went into a shell and let an 18 point lead melt away, almost to the point of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, did not elevate their status.

The performance of the rest of the top tier of the conference sealed the deal.

If I'm a contrarian so be it, but in my opinion only the most ardent, myopic supporter could propose anything otherwise.

How do you define being a greater Buckeye than someone else and I will let you know how I measure up.

The only way that your statement is true is if playing qb on the football team is given priority over everything else.
