QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

You hopped into a discussion and backed up Sloopy disagreeing with Jax' characterizations.
I only started with sloopy's post and gave him my thoughts of the other side because he is a new guy and I didn't want him thinking that all of BP feels that Herbie isn't a Buckeye. I didn't read anything Jax posted today and I addressed my post to all of those who feel the same as Jax. You gave the first mention of Jax that I read today.
There are those feel that Herbie has let the Buckeyes down and those who feel that he hasn't.
Since I don't feel that he has then I have based my opinion on that so sue me.

There are ways to be critical of OSU's offense without saying recruits shouldn't go there.

I could give a fuck if Kirkey picked against the Buckeyes every week and wore a maize and blue jacket and tie during every Gameday broadcast. Saying recruits shouldn't go to Ohio State is the only thing I've ever had a major problem with. Shameful.

I know you know what I know that you know...but I'm gonna take it as the need to supplant some background info on that play for those who don't have every play of that game forever etched in their mind.

Pretty much our #2 (Mike Doss) intercepted a pass from their overrated #7 (Ken limparm Dorsey), while their pimp facemask having #2 (McGahee - pre getting destroyed) runs back and makes the tackle.

Dorsey wore #11. That fact is forever etched in my mind because one of the commentators tried to do a cute bit about the number 13, adding Dorsey's and McGahee's jersey numbers, but completely mispronounced "triskaidekaphobia".

People get so offended at others and how good or bad of fans they are. It's like a measuring stick for their own fanship.

I don't give a shit how much of a homer Herbie is or isn't. He works for an entertainment network. Wrong place to look for unbiased analysis. He gets paid a ton and I'm sure that's why he says some of the stuff he says and doesn't say things some want him to say.

If he worked at a station worried about covering sports for sports, things would probably be different. It's an entertainment network.

Lots of I'M A BETTER FAN THAN ______ on BP lately. It's annoying. And I know nobody has come out and said that.. but that's essentially what's being said when someone criticizes someone else's acts as a fan.

Unless you have played football for tOSU (and I know of only one BPer who has and I haven't seen a post from him in this thread) you've got jack shyte to say about Herbstreit's loyalty. Period.

Even all the sturm und drang about the offensive recruit comment is useless. He wasn't saying that no one should ever consider Ohio State. He was making a critical comment about the state of the offense and the system and, while perhaps overstated, it wasn't too far off of the mark. Seriously, was it an absurd question to ask why a five-star offensive recruit would consider playing in Tressel's system (at the time that the comment was made)?

Abject homerism can be just as damaging to a program as critical dissent. Herbstreit isn't above questioning either, but the guy has a job to do and he does a pretty good job and we benefit overall from having him on GameDay, etc.

Finally, if Tressel doesn't have a problem with him...

In keeping with prior posts in this thread....I stand with this man.
