And that picture is mightily epic. Herby, Eddie and the Senator (pre-vest).

Tressel wore a vest for that game. I don't think he's in that picture.

Sounds like he is trying to tell everyone that ESPN pretty much tells him what to say and what not to say...

I've never had any doubts about Herbie's love for Ohio State and Ohio itself, and understand that it's his job to try and be objective and not sound like a homer.

I actually like Herbie for a few reasons. Some that buckeyes would agree with and others they might not agree with me on.

What's Holtz's excuse not being a homer? Ok Lou.......Let me guess

ND will awesome this year..........I'm talking about going 18-0 this year (only 12 games in the season....how bad ass is that) and winning the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange, and BCS championship along with the Superbowl.

Yea, you're right.

I thought I faintly remembered him wearing a jacket for some of that game. In a blurry sort of way I thought the guy on the right was him.

Consequently, any picture with Tressel holding up the crystal football is infinitely more epic.

Spielman works for the same network. Has he ever had to cry like a little bitch asking forgiveness in front of the team for all the bad shit he's said about the program? Don't the meanies from ESPN put a gun to his head and make him say all the same things?

Also, if we are digging up pictures lets not forget the one with our boy decked out in maize and blue, block M hat on head, mucking it up with the scUM band in 2003.

There are ways to be a proud alum and a good broadcaster without being a homer and then there is the way Herbstriet has gone about things. Now he's moved to tears with regret coincidentally enough before the start of a likely NC run season?

Give me a fucking break. He's just on the rebound from losing Petey.

I don't have a problem with Herbie and TSUN. We all know the family history and he frequently has disclosed the difficulty he had choosing. I think we make too much of his alleged bleeding heart for Ohio State, his closet TSUN loyalties, and his supposed disrespect for Ohio State football in his ESPiN role.

Herbie does a lot for high school football. He's put a lot of support behind Ohio high school football, in particular. I don't like a lot of the things he says but I can separate Herbie the former Ohio State QB and fan from Herbie another guy reading the poison script at ESPiN.

I feel like Spielman and Herbstreit have two completely different styles of commentating. Not to mention the fact that Kirk is a bit more high profile than Chris in terms of who's who at ESPN. I think it's kind of like the difference between Katie Couric and Meredith Vieira, one's allowed a bit more public bias than the other simply because of their responsibilities as anchors/hosts.

You're right about the timing though. I bet some of his remorse has to do with the fact that he can feel more comfortable boasting the Buckeyes this season. Hopefully he won't have to call home to send his kids to bed before the end of our last game of the season this year.

Yes. One will perform fellatio on air, the other will not.

His higher profile requires him telling offensive recruits to not go to OSU? Things of that nature? I don't buy that for a second. He doesn't have to be a homer but he doesn't have to be an assassin either.

I bet more of his new found remorse comes from needing more access to the program than he's had since his initial head butting with Tressel. Whatever the reason for it I'm willing to bet it isn't all that sincere.

I don't know about all the anti-OSU stuff Herbstreit is accused of, being an "assassin" and so on, so I'll take your word for it. I just know that I don't have any personal beef with Herby, seeing as I've never met the guy, so I can enjoy him on-air even if it is just a character.

I love Spiels, but Herbie is a bit higher up on the ladder at ESPN. Spiels doesn't really get the camera time to do much but the sideline "player-level" things he notices.

Herbie on the other hand is probably one of ESPN's premier CFB guys. I think your being very cynical for something that probably isn't as sinister as you're making it seem.

Don't believe those whiners, Herbie is a tried and true Buckeye. They want him to lose his job for being a Buckeye homer on espn.
