In his 15 years as an ESPN college football analyst, former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit has found it's hard to please anyone. Many Buckeye fans think he's too hard on his alma mater with his criticism, and other fans think he's an Ohio State homer by being too nice to the school.

Last spring Herbstreit moved his family from Columbus, Ohio, to Nashville, Tenn., but he denied reports that the move was to escape unruly Ohio State fans. He has been critical of former Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel during the school's recent scandal.

?If I would have moved because I was worried about fans giving me a hard time, I would have moved back in 1996,? Herbstreit said Thursday. ?It's not like I just started doing this. That's why I'm surprised that people thought that Ohio State fans and their wrath or frustration would get me to move. That's really not the case.?

Herbstreit, 41, said he and his wife, Allison, had been contemplating the move for three to four years and even considered moving to Texas. The couple has four sons, twins who are entering fifth grade, a third-grader and a 5-year-old.

?We just felt that the time was right,? he said. ?Doing my job, it's the greatest job in America. I wouldn't want to do anything else. We didn't get chased out of town by Ohio State fans at all. There were a few isolated incidents where we just thought about things and family and their safety and decided it was probably in the best interest of our family to move.?

Umm... sure Kirk. You allowed the reports to fester; and you continue to insinuate that its the underlying cause.

I think what frustrates people the most is that you have the most powerful sports entity in the world (ESPN) bashing Ohio State on a 24-hour loop. OSU has alums that work for the network, most notably Kirk Herbstreit to supposedly balance this out. But it doesn't balance out. Even before this so-called scandal, he never once came to our defense and piled on his own occasionally.

And before anybody accuses me of saying Herbie should be biased towards Ohio State, I'll spare you the time. That's exactly what I'm saying. People already think that he is and its the only way to balance out the other bullshit at that bastardized network.

espin turned in their journalistic integrity badge a LONG time ago. They have shills for every team in the SEC as well as NO D and whatever the flavor of the month is in a particular year (Oregon, Boise State).

Why can't an "analyst" get on and give some love to Ohio State. I'm glad that Herbstriet said what he said about Coach Tressel, but it would be nice to hear him say it on game day or on a broadcast instead of a back page story in the Daily Oklahoman.

As much as I loathe Kirk and the people he works for, he's been pretty mum regarding this whole situation. Shockingly, he's not been throwing stones at Tressel & the program like every other piece of [Mark May] at Disney.

Some of you want him to not say anything but I suppose ESPN would rather he do his job, others want him be all Buckeye at all times in his reporting, But I imagine ESPN probably would have something to say about that too.

This might actually be true. My buddy started doing drugs a while ago and it was really consuming his life. I was pretty concerned. What did I do? I went on national TV and ridiculed him and talked bad about him, making sure I went to great lengths to point out and over state (or even make up) each and every one of his flaws. Then I went to all his family and friends and played the victim when they were pissy about what I did. I had to move because they were being mean to me, and I don't even know why. All I did was try to help my friend, the fuckup asshole druggie shithead*.

This shit is a broken record, but to clear up the new issue with Herby saying he supports Tressel is that it is so unbelievably two-faced going back almost a decade to when he said he would never send his kid to play offense for Tressel, to the embarrassment of credibility that was the Alamo Bowl broadcast, to shedding tears in front of the team for his transgressions.

Basically, he is full of shit and has been for years. Anyone still defending him at this point can't be paying very close attention, it has been elaborated on in excruciating detail over and over much better than I just did for years and years right here on BP.
