heh. I didn't realize it until I played around with their voter filter, but Herbstreit's ap vote is via WBNS, not ESPN. Probably not that significant, as he's more closely associated with ESPN/ABC as far as the average fan is concerned, but just that tiny little bit more frustrating for me...Buckeye86;1891083; said:

And you are convinced of the opposite extreme, that unless incredibly harsh comments can be found on a public forum or article that it is false and justification to swear at people to shut up.Best Buckeye;1891136; said:JMO but it seems that most of you feel that "your opinion" has the same definition as "fact"
Exactly true, I don't believe in spreading untruths and until such time that Herbie says he is no longer a fan then I take him as one. Yet some of posters here refer to him as a liar even after reading his comments in the Dispatch.jwinslow;1891146; said:And you are convinced of the opposite extreme, that unless incredibly harsh comments can be found on a public forum or article that it is false and justification to swear at people to shut up.
There are a LOT of people in the whac and former teammates who really detest herbstreit but they aren't about to lash out in a public, permanent medium.
Most ugly behavior is just not aired in a public forum that can be linked.
Meanwhile herbie made his departure a national story, which seems pretty odd if in fact media backlash for his family was the problem. That seems more like another manipulative tactic that only risks more of a backlash, putting a huge dent in his claim.
I don't think it's that; Herbie is just a bit of a drama queen. He really does seem to me to be angst-ridden about how people in Columbus perceive him. Hooley, on the other hand, couldn't care less.jwinslow;1891146; said:Meanwhile herbie made his departure a national story, which seems pretty odd if in fact media backlash for his family was the problem. I DO know that he has treated OSU unfairly frequently since about 2003. He hasn't always treated OSU unfairly...but he has stepped way over the line several times. If you flatly disagree with that then we have little left to discuss on the matter because to me it is obvious.
He railed on OSU about the Troy Smith stuff and not the Tat5 stuff. Yet he has never...not once as I've seen while on ESPN....admonished Pete Carroll or USC for their PROVEN inappropriate antics. Double standard ?
He questioned the validity of OSU's NC in 2002 by stating that he wishes OSU would have faced USC after the Fiesta Bowl so that "a true national champion could have been determined on the field". Yet he never questioned Alabama's or Auburn's NCs. I wonder if that has more to do with the SEC-ESPN connection. Regardless....a double standard.
You've already heard about how he suggested that offensive recruits shouldn't play for Tressel. I'm still waiting for him to balance that out by stating that defensive recruits SHOULD play for OSU since OSU is the best defense in the nation year in and year out.
He took on Terrelle Pryor in a very personal and direct manner......yet never took on Cam Newton who has been involved in arguably much worse. This is an example of Herbstreit using his connection with OSU to be considered a true expert whose opinion should carry a lot more weight even though he's attacking a player.
The worst example is Herbstreit's refusal to not only defend OSU a bit....but even just to stop the runaway train of slander and abuse that went on during the broadcast of the Alamo Bowl in 2004. The attacks on Geiger and Tressel during that were so over-the-top that even Mike Tirico of Ann Arbor, Michigan came to the our defense in a way by stating that "these allegations hadn't even been proven yet....so let's withold judgement let alone sentencing". In fact, Herbstreit nodded in seemingly implicit agreement with Trev Alberts and Mark May.
shame on you, Herbstreit........you had a chance to be a stand-up guy with journalistic integrity and decency......but you saved that to stand up for Pete Carroll, Les Miles, and Cam Newton.
I don't hate Herbie....I just don't care one way or the other. Enjoy life, Herbie...I hope you're happy.
