QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

This shouldn't be regarded as a defense of Herbstreit in any way, shape or form.

With that said, anyone who texted, emailed, confronted on the street, or otherwise made life in Columbus miserable for the Herbstreit family should be ashamed of themselves. Those people who did so are miserable dickheads.

Almost a full half hour and we don't have a joke about being hard on Mrs Herbstreit?

Must be tournament week.

I'll wait for the day when Herbstreit has to broadcast from Columbus with GameDay. It should be fun to watch as he takes the microphone to a loud chorus of boos.

Yeah, I always enjoy watching people in Columbus embarrass themselves and The University. :roll2:

I agree, only I will defend Herbstreit in every way, shape and form. Herbie said it best:

"Eighty to ninety percent of the Ohio State fans are great. It's the vocal minority that make it rough. They probably represent only 5 to 10 percent of the fan base, but they are relentless."

As I said earlier in this thread, the "herbie bashers' are the minority whether they realize it or not. Be loud, be proud Columbus. :ohwell:

I think it works both ways.

10% of Ohio State's fan base sees 90% of what Herbstreit does as him bashing Ohio State (or whatever).

On the flip side, 90% of Ohio State's fan base sees 10% of what he does (like voting us #9 in the most recent post season poll and defending it by saying he was half-asleep) as being unnecessarily critical of Ohio State... because that is exactly what it is.

Did that make sense?

I look at it as 90% of Ohio State fans don't pay close enough attention to what's really going on & being said like most of us do, which is why a large majority of posters here dislike Herbstreit. Your average fan sees Herbie's face on TV and knows he played for tOSU and hears him talking about being a Buckeye fan, but they may not pay enough attention to see all the stupid shit Herbie says and does that go without being discussed.

I view Herbie as an ESPN employee, and I think they have agendas.. I know, Spielman, Carter, etc. But, I don't really put much stock into what he says based on his employer. They're an entertainment organization, and if you're looking for good analysis, you're looking in the wrong place.

Do I disagree with some of the stuff he says? Absolutely. Do I think it's sometimes over the line? Yep. Do I think it's worth harassing him and his family over? No, but I also don't really give a damn what people on TV have to say most of the time. I'm generally looking for entertainment one way or the other.

he didn't say anything about how his older OSU teammates really don't give a sh,,,for him now and I've been hearing this for years at tail-gating parties from a bunch of x-players including my b-in-law whose, only TD was by Herpies. I know Cris Carter thinks he's a bit,,,,

Do people really believe that Herbstreit is leaving Columbus because "fans" harass him? I mean, maybe it's possible, but the whole thing seems highly contrived to me.

Do I believe it? No. But I know that's what Herbie wants people to believe--that he's Mr. "fair and balanced" who loves OSU more than any other OSU fan ever could, and the big, bad irrational OSU fans drove him out of town. Which, of course, on so many levels, is ridiculous.

Do you have a link that shows otherwise? That he says he is not a Buckeye anymore? If not then stfu.

Sure, let me take out my "who loves the Buckeyes the most" meter and see where Herbie scores. Oh, I forgot--Herbie is the one who apparently has the ability to gague who loves the Buckeyes the most, given his quote. So I guess you're right--Herbie's claim that he loves the Buckeyes the most isn't ridiculous at all. :roll2:

As for your second question, there's a huge difference between saying that he's not a Buckeye anymore (which I never said--go back through this thread if you'd like) and pointing out that his claim that "nobody loves Ohio State more than me" seems a little ridiculous.

There are people in my life that I love...I would not call them out on national TV as having done something terrible without any verification in order to boost my own image and then refuse to take it back afterwards. Does that mean he is "not a Buckeye"? No. But it means his act of "I am really more of a Buckeye than you because my wife was a cheerleader" is getting old.
