QB Justin Zwick (B1G Champion, National Champion)

As one of the perks of playing in the national title game, the Buckeyes received gifts from the Bowl Championship Series last week. Tressel said they were satellite radio receiver sets.

So let me get this straight. It is OK for the the bowls to give the players perks, but a community trying to send the families of the players to watch those players in the games is a no-no? The NCAA is absolutely idiotic sometimes.

I've often wondered how the bowl gifts get justified... but I'm not going to argue it, because I think they're well-deserved. All I can say is it's one of those anomolies... like being able to box for a ton of money when another kid isn't allowed to knit skullcaps for a few dollars.

One of these days some player is going to take the NCAA to court on that and is going to screw them hard...

Fate, circumstance derail Zwick, D'Andrea

By Marla Ridenour

Beacon Journal sportswriter

GLENDALE, ARIZ. - It's possible none of the three headliners of Ohio State's Class of 2002 will participate in its last hurrah.
Mike D'Andrea, Justin Zwick and Maurice Clarett came to Columbus as Parade All-Americans, leading the 25 signees that were rated the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation.

As a backup, Zwick looks forward

Plain Dealer Reporter
Glendale, Ariz. -- Without Justin Zwick, there would be no Troy Smith. Without the unfulfilled potential, and without the on-the-field disappointment, there would be no Heisman winner at Ohio State, no BCS Championship Game for the Buckeyes on Monday. Smith is certain of it.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. ? He?s an injury away from playing in the national championship game, something many envisioned five years ago for Justin Zwick, including himself, when he was a prized recruit from Massillon. "I?ve learned that not everything is going to go the way you think it is," Zwick said.

Massillon's Justin Zwick?s loyalty rewarded with Hula Bowl spot
Sunday, January 7, 2007
By Todd Porter REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

GLENDALE, Ariz. As much as Justin Zwick tries, he can?t forget the play, a dropped pass that changed a career. During last season?s Texas game, Zwick and Troy Smith rotated at quarterback. It was Zwick who was on the field in the fourth quarter for a drive that could have won the game. He threw a pass to tight end Ryan Hamby in the middle of the end zone. Hamby dropped it.

I might have missed it if somebody else wrote about in on here, but from my seat at the Michigan game on Nov. 18, the crowd gave Zwick the second loudest ovation (Troy's was louder) when the seniors were introduced. The fans showed him how much we have all appreciated his class, hard work and leadership.

I've said it before, I think JZ was an unfortunate victim of circumstance in 2004. He took over for an incredibly popular and successful QB on a team decimated by graduation with no running game to help and unblelievably high expectations. He could have taken the easy way out and transferred to get a shot at showing his stuff elsewhere, but stuck to his commitment and remained a true Buckeye the whole way. Unfortunately for him Troy stepped in and the offense began to find an identity in late 2004. I hope he has a nice showing in the Hula Bowl and some nice workouts in the combine. If anybody deserves a shot in the NFL, it's JZ.

In a perfect Buckeye world, we will have to ball with a comfortable lead with about a minute or so left in the game, Troy Smith will take the field with the offense and then call a timeout and signal for Justin to come in, at which point they will meet halfway between the huddle and sideline, hug, and then Justin will proceed to take the snaps for the Victory Formation (along with as many non-starting seniors as possible being on offense).

That would be sweet! Hopefully that will happen!

Definitely like the sounds of that. There aren't enough superlatives to describe the kind of player and person Justin Zwick has been in a less than ideal situation for him.
