QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

They acknowledge that he’ll sit more 2nd halves than anyone and that he’ll have fewer plays, but they’re expecting crazy numbers per play

Hell he behind one of the three best offensive lines in the United States; Olave and Wilson will be one of the best duos OSU has seen at WR follows by a group of incredibly talented freshmen. He has an outstanding tight end in Jeremy Ruckert who will get 6 targets on the season.

My off-season analysis (in the 2020 offense thread) showed that the record setting offense last year was MUCH better when the defense did not blitz.

The last few minutes of the Ryan Day radio show today had Kevin Wilson fielding questions. The last one he was asked was about what Fields has improved on. He said that Ryan Day had been working extensively with Justin on "understanding pressures and blitz concepts".

Justin Fields has been quoted recently that he wants to "show everyone what I've improved on".

Putting those two together, I am very excited to see what happens when you take a record setting offense and turn its one (relative) weakness into a strength. It sounds like it's going to happen.

I would not be at all surprised to see Justin Fields put up a passer rating in excess of 200 this year.

In his quest to become an even better quarterback going into his second season at Ohio State, Justin Fields has gone vegan.

Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, whose wife is also a vegan, believes the new diet has paid dividends for the Buckeyes’ starting signal-caller.

“I think he just did it to be leaner, take care of himself and be stronger and faster, and he looks that way,” Wilson said Friday. “He’s a stronger and faster player.”

JUSTIN FIELDS WILL AVERAGE THE SECOND-MOST PASS YARDS PER GAME IN A SINGLE-SEASON IN SCHOOL HISTORY

Go big or go home.

First of all, I said second-most because nobody is ever beating the 345.1 passing yards per game Dwayne Haskins averaged in 2018.

For Fields to make this one a reality he'll need to average more than the 277.5 yards per game Joe Germaine threw for during his stellar 1998 campaign. Last year, Fields averaged 233.8 yards through the air which slots No. 5 in school history.

Expecting Fields to add nearly 44 passing yards per game to his 2019 tally is a tall order but I'm betting on Justin for a couple reasons.

For starters, Fields put up 302 passing yards against Michigan, 299 on Wisconsin and 320 versus Clemson to round out the season and it sounds like he's only gotten better in the offseason.

I also think Ryan Day wants to give Fields every opportunity to showcase his talent after the signal-caller showed great poise and maturity in never wavering in his decision to play this year. Fields has two proven studs to throw to in Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, and a host of other talented receivers vying for opportunities to show what they can do.

Finally, putting up style points could matter this year and Day's best bet to do that is to ride Fields to the promised land.

Justin Fields

Fields was asked if he was looking forward to getting hit to get back into football mode. Fields candidly responded “Not really”.

Fields feels that he is way ahead of where he was last year at this team. Last year the playbook was all new to him but now he is very comfortable with the playbook and now understands the nuances of why certain plays are called and what is expected when they are called.

Fields thinks the move of Garrett Wilson to the slot will be a very good one. Wilson will have plays both inside and outside from that position which will give him more opportunities to do what he does.

Fields said his injury last year was serious enough that he sometimes actually had problems walking when he was off the field. The injury really affected his play and he anxious to start playing again now that he is injury free.

When Wyatt Davis declared for the NFL draft Fields was in his ear to come back. He was calling him so much that “I think I was annoying a little bit.”

Fields switch to a vegan diet was inspired by his father. He said his father was a little overweight and challenged Fields to go on a 28-day vegan diet along with his step-mother and step-sister so there could be a family competition. When the 28 days were over he decided to continue with the diet because he felt so good and his body responded so well to it. His diet consists of no meat or dairy products, but does have some occasional fish. He said he has no meat cravings. He’s happy with Tofu salad and Tofu burritos.

Two players on the offense that have stood out this fall are Jamison Williams and Trey Sermon.

Fields believes that the Buckeyes have as much talent on their team as anyone in the country, but warns that talent can only take you so far. You still have to prepare and execute. If not, that talent doesn’t mean much.

If Williams is the talent he was as a recruit on paper, the top 3 WR unit is going to be really fun to watch.

Pardon me for focusing on just this part of your post, but consider that the Buckeyes only need Williams OR any of the Fab Four Freshmen to live up to their billing to field a secondary coach’s nightmare.

And just a few year’s ago Meyer called the wide receivers a clown show
