QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

Meyer talking about how it will be a good battle next year between Burrow & Haskins tipping the hand that JT is leaving?

I think JT will and should leave. He can't really improve his stock. No reason to come back, especially with his injury history and the pounding he takes running the ball 200+ times a year. He's always going to be a mid round pick at best b/c of his measurables. Might as well start the pro clock and get some pay checks.

Correct at every point.

I hope we can do this right then and send him out with at least 4 more wins and a natty..

I don't think he's an elite QB prospect and at best I'd imagine he will be a 3rd rounder but yes he has a lot of miles on him and another year probably doesn't improve his stock

I think he could improve it by throwing WRs open and working on the middle of the field and downfield accuracy. He's not exceptionally better than he was as a freshman.

He's never been the measurables guy, but we knew that since his RsFr year. I just don't get the "Well, he's not going to get that much better, so he should leave" that we hear constantly.

OHIO STATE'S LAST TRIP TO EAST LANSING WAS THE NIGHT J.T. BARRETT BECAME J.T. BARRETT

76801_h.jpg,qitok=eEAADvQf.pagespeed.ce.l587ELo1WX.jpg

When searching for the moment, the game, which J.T. Barrett became J.T. Barrett, look no further than Nov. 8, 2014.

Barrett, then a redshirt freshman quarterback at Ohio State, led his team north to East Lansing for a primetime showdown against Michigan State. The Spartans were ranked eighth in the country; the Buckeyes were No. 14. The winner would be in the driver’s seat in the Big Ten East; the loser would need help to make the conference title game and was, essentially, eliminated from College Football Playoff contention.

It was a game, an environment, a series of moments on that crisp November night that helped shape Barrett into what he is today.

Ohio State knocked off Michigan State, 49-37, avenging a loss to the Spartans from the previous season in the Big Ten championship game. The Buckeyes’ redshirt freshman signal caller threw for 300 yards, ran for 86 more and accounted for five total touchdowns in the win.

“It was, I think, a great plan we had going into the game,” Barrett recalled Monday ahead of his return to Michigan State on Saturday. “We were playing well as a team and we knew we were the underdogs in that game so we wanted to just come out and play hard for each other.

“It came to be a good game for us, especially offensively.”

I get comparing eras and offenses doesn't make for an exact comparison but it's still interesting how similar Barrett's passing stats are to Troy Smith coming into the game in '06.

Smith 170-256 for 2191 yards. 66.4%. 26 TD, 4 INT
Barrett 199-314 for 2304 yards. 63.4%. 24 TD, 4 INT

I'm a big believer in yards per attempt being the key stat (besides INTs) in the passing game, with a YPA of 9 being the magic number for elite status. Troy's 8.6 as compared to JT's 7.3 is a pretty big deal for me.

The power of J.T Barrett's voice

Austin Ward
ESPN Staff Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- There is no script.

In fact, the first time J.T. Barrett stood up in front of his teammates, fists punching the air and voice rising, there wasn't even a plan for him to speak at all.

He was just a redshirt freshman preparing to make his first start for Ohio State in a neutral-site game against Navy. Barrett had the starting job for less than two weeks, and there was no reason for the Buckeyes to change their pregame plans from the previous seasons or carve out any time for an untested quarterback.

"I don't remember what I said, but I remember standing up on a chair," said Barrett, now a redshirt junior. "Before that, it was always [then-Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom] Herman -- he would say something and then we left. I don't know what happened, I just felt like I had something to say.

"Come to find out, I've always got something to say."

Every game since then, whether he's injured or healthy, struggling or setting records, starting or coming off the bench, the Buckeyes have come to expect their final dose of motivation from Barrett's mouth.

And he's more than happy to oblige, as loud as he possibly can.

"We don't have enough juice, and what I don't understand is, we don't have another day. We don't have another second, we don't have another minute to waste. There's not going to be another 2016 team. There's not going to be another game against Rutgers. We don't get a do-over. We've got to find some juice, we've got to find something, because we're not going to do that to them. I'll be damned if we do that to our seniors. Not today. We're going to play like it's the last time -- every time." -- Oct. 1 speech vs. Rutgers

The word was spreading throughout the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, but Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was having a hard time buying it.

Barrett is one of the most soft-spoken players on his roster during the week, an introspective kid with a low voice that even to this day can be difficult to pick up on a microphone during his frequent media appearances.

Dude has caught a little bit of heat in various circles which simply amazes me. If, even the casual fan doesn't know by now that the greatness of Joe Thomas can't be quantified by a QBR then I humbly offer this. Oh, and screw that team up north.

Man, I remember sitting in A deck watching The Game '14 and listening to some fucking knuckle dragging moron a few rows behind me yell "Nice call Herman" on every offensive play that didn't break a long gain or a TD.

I looked at my then 9 year old son and we both just shook our heads and laughed at him.

You are never going to please Buckeye nation completely. Too much of a lunatic fringe (insert Red Rider video here).

"A little bit of heat"? The comments on 11 Warriors Facebook are insane. Any mention or prediction for JT and the comment section is flooded with "fans" calling for Barrett to be benched in favor of Joey B. There's comparisons of JTs passing to Bauserman and how he's regressed every game... and I'm not talking about 1 or 2 postings, there's upwards of 50-70.

Yeah, I pretty much stay off social media for these reasons. I personally don't see the time being well spent. It's the modern version of the water cooler, but one that attracts more wackos.
