QB Discussion Thread, Cotton Bowl and 2024

Anyone consider Brown having a great game in the Cotton Bowl could be a bad thing?

ie----QB consider OSU may choose to go elsewhere if they think Brown wins the starting job.

A decent game from Brown and the D playing great would probably be ideal.
So you think it would be bad if our answer at QB is found on the current roster?

At least the early season schedule is favorable next year for whoever the QB is and the offense to hopefully get into a groove before they go play @ Oregon in game 6

Akron, Western Michigan, Marshall, Sparty and Iowa are the first 5. Only one on the road being @ Sparty. I'd say Iowa is a "real" defense but they tend to get exposed against better teams, especially when they are on the road. Thankfully that game is in The Shoe.

Birm is VERY confident in that Sayin has the best arm in the team, and that he should play if he shows he’s ready, regardless of his age/year. Ward agrees that the talent is there but wear on the ramifications and realities.

I’m personally in the middle somewhere. If Sayin is the best, you don’t want to disrespect him and lose him to the portal next year by not giving him PT. But if you do jump him over Brown/Howard, Lincoln, Air - how many leave? And are we assuming Brown is gone in the spring? A lot of questions still out there.

8/31 Akron
9/7 Western M*ch*gan
9/21 Marshall
9/28 Conference schedule begins
I trust our coaching staff to use those 3 games to get the quarterbacks ready for the remaining games. If there's a guy or two who isn't ready, he doesn't have to play.
Play the guy(s) who are going to win the championships.

Considering Day's track record with giving even somewhat meaningful run to backups, I'll believe it when I see it.

Having no familiarity with these guys, I'll ask you - does "best arm" mean just that? Arm talent? If so, especially as a freshman, then I'm taking that at face value.

Showing a great arm in camp and practice is one thing. Having quick eyes, consistently good and decisive decision making, timing and ball placement are all of significantly greater value. We just often tend to get sucked into the *wow he throws fast* part and ignore the rest because it's quickly digestible.
