QB Discussion Thread, Cotton Bowl and 2024

Having no familiarity with these guys, I'll ask you - does "best arm" mean just that? Arm talent? If so, especially as a freshman, then I'm taking that at face value.

Showing a great arm in camp and practice is one thing. Having quick eyes, consistently good and decisive decision making, timing and ball placement are all of significantly greater value. We just often tend to get sucked into the *wow he throws fast* part and ignore the rest because it's quickly digestible.
Not only that, but he's got to get bigger and older. I'm not sayin (see what I did there?) make him sit three years or even two. I'm saying that it's borderline irresponsible and could be detrimental to most kids to throw them out as a starter right away. If he's earned it during the season, ok, I guess, but I'd rather see him get reps and work a year and really be ready to take over when it's the right time. I don't think a real player runs off because of one development (if it's good, real development) year at tOSU. After that, fair question.

Considering Day's track record with giving even somewhat meaningful run to backups, I'll believe it when I see it.
I think there's a bit of a different dynamic at QB this year than in year's past. Howard is here for 1 year and I'm not dogging him at all, but he's probably not a Heisman contender that Day will feel pressure to rack up the stats later in a game. I fully expect Howard to start and of course we hope it's a springboard into a better draft status.

So I think (hope) we'll see backups get more opportunities to develop. Question is how the hell do you decide how to split up the reps with Brown, LK, Sayin and Noland? There's a lot to consider on elevating Sayin to QB2 even if he looks a little better. Best man plays, I know. But I just see this being a really difficult decision...one I don't get paid to make though, so I'll just watch with interest.

I have to believe someone leaves after Spring ball when things become a bit clearer. Who leaves wil be interesting.

It could be no one oldly enough. With the Noises Brown is making the last 6 months he seems the type to fight to the bitter end. I guess maybe Kienholtz if one or both of the frosh pass him. But if someone doesn't leave this year I expect someone to leave next year after that battle is settled.
