QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

For being good at “keeping his eyes down field”, he sure seems to struggle making plays when pressured off his spot.

I can recall a handful of good sideline passes but most of his scramble drills end poorly. What’s the point of keeping eyes downfield if he can’t make the play? Or even worse, ignores the imminent danger right in front of him (ex last fumble today). Would rather he run than force his eyes downfield with no success.

really good passer, in the pocket, when he’s decisive. Still not seeing the playmaking, game-winning skills to be elite.

Hope he keeps improving/growing.

If it helps put Stroud's performance against the better defenses he's faced in perspective:

Opponent Yards per Attempt (measurement of pass defense)
Team/Current Rank/Avg allowed/Stroud

Oregon #19/6.5/8.96
Penn State #7/5.7/8.97
Nebraska #20/6.5/7.5

Raw numbers vs the same opponents

Oregon: 35/54 484yds 3/1
PSU: 22/34 305 1/0
Neb: 36/54 405 2/2

His average so far against three top 20 pass defenses is 93/142 (65%) /398 yards per game/ 6 TD/3INT

Throwing 50 times can do that.
On an admittedly, previously hurt shoulder.

We talk about saving Henderson for a stretch run but where is the pitch count on CJ. This time of year the hits pile up, the weather gets worse and things breakdown after 50+ tosses in a game.

Not a fan of Ryan Day going Dusty Baker on him. General feeling is CJ’s being asked to do too much/more than he’s capable of (right now).

Then you look at his pitches per game against the three good defenses so far and see he was only asked to throw it 34 times against PSU.

Oddly enough the running backs averaged 5.1 yards per carry vs PSU.

Against Nebraska and Oregon it was under 5 and he was asked to throw it 54 times each.

More than capable.

I would describe that run as fine. A step ahead of Todd Boeckman, who could have also scored on that play.

We've seen him run this year. He's athletic enough to relocate. He's not dynamic, nor is he a decisive runner.

The defense would like him to start running. I'd like him to settle occasionally for mild gains. JTs brilliance was his ability to avoid losing yardage, or turning 4 yard losses into 0-3 yd gains.

They called some of the QB options that others have wanted and he was alright, not great. Not a fan of the pitch option look given his general style and aggression.
To say "I make my living throwing the ball" is like a WR saying "I make my living catching the ball" with the implication that he doesn't need to block.
No, it's like Ted Ginn saying he is a wr if the media was constantly asking/wanting him to run the Shotginn.

One of the many problems when you can’t run the ball effectively.
