QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

“I just really stayed in my circle,” Stroud said. “I mean, if it wasn’t God, my family or my teammates or my coaches saying anything, it really didn’t bother me. 'Cause at the end of the day, only we know what we go through every day. Only we know what the real feeling is of waking up and having to grind to get the win and then doing it again the next week. When it came to that I just really leaned on my brothers, leaned on my family and then just prayed about it. So that’s how I kept my peace and kept my joy and I just kept going. I mean, that’s the thing about life is just perseverance. The more you can persevere through your problems, I feel like the better. So that’s really all I had to do, was just lean on them.”

“One of the main things that I always tell myself is to control the controllables and the ones that you can’t control, just let God handle it,” Stroud said. “I’m not going to wake up and look at my phone everyday and see all the negativity or the positivity because at the end of the day that stuff doesn’t matter. I’m on this earth to praise God’s name and inspire others, so that’s my job. Of course, playing football with it, so when it comes to that I just have to stay focused with that and not worry about what anybody else has to say.”

Listening to his quote on running, I don't get the opinion he has that dog in him that JT and Justin did. Those guys were willing to run it 30 times and take shots if they had to to get the W. He reminds me of Haskins who relied solely on his arm (until he was forced to run vs Maryland). Can't win a championship if your QB isn't ever going to get dirty in the trenches

Every time he leaves the pocket, it's an adventure. I'm hoping that hasn't sparked some DC's out there to gameplan just flushing him out of the pocket and him not making them pay. I think his youth and inexperience stil factors into the decisions definitely and they don't come fast enough to make more plays outside the pocket.

Justin was absolutely nothing like JT (as a runner or passer), and these same criticisms were leveled at him.

He happened to be one of the best athletes at qb, and was much more willing to scramble, but there was an avalanche of non reads that people complained about regularly. And Justin showed the hits a lot more than JT.

CJ has a long way to go to earn the stripes of those two Legends, but the day scheme criticism was there too.

Also third year Justin was grittier than second year Justin, the latter of which is the comparison here. Not that either Justin was unworthy of major respect, but if we're talking about being a dog, while JT is in another category, Justin took big strides there in his final collegiate year.

Bama hasn’t had that problem, and I believe that Tua was their only running QB. As long as the OL opens holes for the RB it shouldn’t matter. And if Stroud only scrambles a few times a game or less , then it shouldn’t matter as long as he gets the ball to the weapons.

I don't want Stroud to be a running quarterback. However, I do want Stroud to run the ball when every damned QB in the history of football from Michael Vick to Tom Brady would've run the ball. If 15 yards of open field are staring you in the face, then tuck the ball and take off, dammit!

Pretty much he needs to take the easy hards and make it 2nd or 3rd and 5 is all. He doesn't need to be running QB but he needs to take free yards to keep the offense on schedule

Can't say it any better, LJB. The comment about running the ball being for running backs is not wise. If the field is wide open or your running is the only chance of success on a critical play, then run the ball. Failing to run the ball not only puts a win at risk, it encourages teams to come after you and eventually, when they get ahold of you, it could put your health and career at risk.

i agree with that, but I don’t want my QB taking unnecessary hits, that will also cause us games and even seasons. If a play breaks down, definitely Stroud should tuck and run for open yards and slide. But my point was more towards not wanting a JT type offense or where we worry about a drop off if the QB gets blasted on a run like Fields.
