QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

cAn #7 pASS tHe TeSt?
35comp
54att
484yards
64.8%
3td 1int
41yards longest throw.

Kid put up almost 5bills at home in a game that became way too pass heavy early. A (rs) frosh shouldn't HAVE to be asked to shoulder (another joke there given his injury) the load every week. In all honesty, no one player should. By your logic Haskins himself "failed" given the Purdue debacle. Coombs and the defense was the issue with OU, NOT Stroud.

Now that we see glimpses of defensive balance possibly being re-established, we don't see a young QB pressing every damn throw. Instead he can now learn to play efficiently within himself and the structure of the offensive design.

Your football I.Q. and insight continues to lack.
Just win baby Stats are for Cutler George Haskins ..Krenzel probably has the biggest wins this century. Give me tha and the Wolverine slayer.

CJ has done something that no Buckeye QB has ever done, and he's about to do something else that no one else has ever done.

His pass efficiency in the last 3 games is as follows:
  • 266.17
  • 226.07
  • 201.94

No (other*) Ohio State quarterback has ever had 3 games in a row with passing efficiency over 200.

* JT Barrett technically did it in 2015, but in one of those games he had 2 attempts and in another he had 4. When you stipulate > 2 attempts for all games, only CJ has done it. The OSU record book stipulation is 10 attempts/game and should be higher imho.

The last 3 quarterbacks have each had a 4 game stretch where they put up 3 games of over 200, but all of those included non-conference, non-P5 opponents. CJ got 3 in-a-row against all B1G opponents.

CJ now has posted > 200 PE against all 4 of his B1G opponents this year. Only Justin Fields has ever had > 200 PE against 4 B1G opponents in a single season (2019). One more game over 200, and CJ will have more than any other OSU QB.

Never mind that the last game was played in steady rain that caused several drops.

I feel like people criticizing Stroud for the Oregon game didn’t actually watch it. There were some BAD drops by the WRs in that game. I recall one where he put it right on the numbers for Stover I believe that would’ve put the ball at the 5 or somewhere around there. Ruckert I think had a drop in the end zone. Wilson and Olave I believe had a couple of crucial drops. Even with the high throws Stroud played well enough for the offense to put up 40+.

The game where Stroud deserved criticism is the Tulsa game since he actually did look like straight ass.

The difference between that game and all others is worth noting.

With that one exception, Stroud put up the best passer efficiency rating against every defense he faced. By margins that make it look like someone set the game to easy mode. No quarterback who has faced any team CJ has faced did nearly as well.

except against Tulsa

CJ Stroud has the WORST passer efficiency rating for any quarterback to face Tulsa this year.

By far the best against everyone else
The worst against Tulsa

if you had only that to go by, a reasonable person would conclude that it was likely he was playing through an injury against Tulsa

Minor amendment to the last post

Of all the quarterbacks to face any of Ohio State’s opponents this year, only Ohio State’s other quarterbacks did nearly as well as Stroud.
I might be wrong they did have drops early and some over throws. Since Tulsa Day has adjusted the O so they are ready to go snap 1 especially Stroud they don’t waste early possessions..they don’t pull the feel out game. They score..in 3 plays or 15 plays early and often. Lately empty possessions are end of half or up by 28. That helps the D when playing even or from the lead.

I would say most of the criticism is from him not being clutch in that OU game and fans have come to believe in super clutch play from OSU QBs over the past decade and a little longer. Since Krenzel we've seen some sick, clutch performances from the QB position. Maybe that criticism isnt fair since it was his second game ever but it is what it is at Ohio State. He's been a monster since sitting and getting right so we only need to see that one big clutch performance to put him on the mountaintop in my opinion. He made some incredible seam throws in that game though which I thought were his best on the year until the JSN sideline ball.

Didnt really need him vs Tulsa, Henderson was possessed. We've had a lot more drops this year than we're used to especially from Wilson and Olave. Weird.

CJ's differential passing efficiency is up to 1.57 on the season

Explain that to me. Does that mean Stroud averages a 1.57 higher passing efficiency than the opponents give up to non-Stroud quarterbacks? Like, the other quarterbacks average a 180.00 passing efficiency and Stroud averages 181.57? Or that Stroud averages a 57% higher passing efficiency than the non-Stroud quarterbacks do? I mean, those quarterbacks average a 180.00 passing efficiency, and Stroud averages a 282.60 passing efficiency?

I think I know the answer, because one of those is kinda "meh", and the other is very much more of a "wow!" Stroud has been playing like a "wow!"
