QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

So if I can gather what we’re talking about without actually reading through everything, we’re discussing whether throwing it to the guy that is so wide open they run far after the catch is a bad thing? Got it.
Yeah, those 50 or 60 yard TDs when the ball only goes 20 or 30 yards in the air, I fucking Hate those.

Mac Jones and Tua became first round picks with high YAC percentages.

Yeah, if anyone watched the NC, Mac Jones and Devonta Smith killed OSU with YAC. Not many long bombs, just Smith in space, and off to the races. If that can get you an NC, sign me up. I'm fine if Olave and Wilson are wide open and get 60+yd TDs on short slants and screens.

I’d like to see more consistent intermediate completions; I know the weather was inclement but — my goal would be to assemble some sustainable drives rather than big play ones — albeit big plays are fucking awesome

Agreed. Having been at the game, I don't think there was really a point where the rain should have caused some of the bad throws in the first half. But once I got a chance to go back and watch the highlights, there were some intermediate to long throws that were on the money even if the receiver was wide open or went on a huge run after the catch. The deep post TD to Wilson he was quite open, but the ball was right in stride and on the numbers. The TD pass to Olave in the early third quarter he looks wide open, but CJ had to drop the ball over a defender and throw it across the field, it was a difficult throw. Those are just a couple examples and there certainly is much room for improvement moving forward, but I think I was a tad too critical during the game on his performance because the bad throws just stuck out in my mind.

i was definitely overly emotional about it; there can be excellent occurrences and opportunities at the same time. I’m sure Day is sitting with him and showing him how he can navigate a pocket, how he can progress more quickly and trust his ability to beat coverage

I posted a video in the Ryan Day thread having an interview with RJ Young. He certainly talked about film and having a new QB.

Bama has shown us over and over and fucking over again that a good QB with awesome WRs, a good scheme, and with the offense playing as a cohesive unit will win titles.

I think in the past we have relied on awesome talent at QB so much that it becomes a crutch and a detriment.

Maybe stroud will be another fields, but he doesn’t have to be.

Not at all. I'd hope that Stroud becomes a guy that utilizes his weapons and doesn't depend on himself as much as Fields. I love Fields, and thoroughly enjoyed his time in S&G, but there were times when he pulled it down and ran and I just prayed he wouldn't get laid out. Too many weapons at Strouds disposal for him to have to be Superman

The only thing that bothered me about Stroud last week was that, by his own admission, he let things get in his head a little bit. This week it could be just as bad with the pressure of playing in front of a home crowd. At least for a while.

Will he sail passes because he’s amped up or holding to the ball to long instead of bailing on a poor play.
