QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

My expectations were too high. I didn't think it would bother him much that it was his first game and I expected he would come out and light it up. That is on me. He played like it was his first start, kinda because it was his first start.

I saw a great break down from an analyst and he pointed out some great footage of footwork and some easily correctable mistakes CJ made in the Gopher game that will be fixed shortly and make him more accurate.

Stats for 2 QBs who made their first college start last week:

Pass yards..yds/attempt..TD passes..Rush Att…Yards..Total TDs..Turnovers..Pass Efficiency (the official stat, not ESPN's made-up one)

344..........9.1.........4............2......-1.......4..........1.......181.8

294.........13.4.........4............3......13.......4..........1.......222.3

The first is Bryce Young, who all the talking heads are raving about. The other guy plays for tOSU. I saw an ESPN analysis of his first game earlier this week, and they talked about his footwork issues and his improper reads, and only showed him throwing incomplete passes. They didn't bother showing any of the TDs he threw. When they talk about Bryce Young they sure haven't talked about him holding the ball too long on the play where he was stripped and Bama lost possession.

This is all about an agenda for ESPN to influence Heisman voters for the Alabama QB over the Buckeye QB. It will continue all year if it looks like an actual contest between the two.

CJ had a dropped pass by Wilson in the first half which hurt and even so he didn't play poorly in the first half. Still led us to scores on half our possessions and did some nice things.

Kid almost threw for 300yds with 4tds and 1 int that was tipped. Not sure what he was expected to do? 400yds/5td/0 int?

I think everyone that watched the game would say CJ didn't play badly, but he wasn't Fields or Haskins either. CJ didn't look real comfortable and he missed several throws high that the announcers were pointing out. The video break down I watched, there were reasons for the high throws and it was all footwork related. They even showed some of the passes he completed which were technically not great from a mechanics standpoint, off his back foot. That kind of stuff can haunt you later.

I am not sure anyone thought he was outstanding. Did you? His stats don't tell the entire story, as they never do. He played like he was starting his first game, a little nervous and a little uncertain. I expect his confidence to grow and he will develop and improve. There is a reason people talk about it "being his first start" when it comes to QB's. Because they always seem to play nervous and unsure. He did just as should have been expected. I expected too much.

He wasn't outstanding, but the difference between the first & second half was night/day. He said himself he wasn't in a great space mentally in the first half, but clearly something clicked after coming out of the locker room. Given that he appeared in 1 game without attempting a single pass in 2020, it's not surprising. We'll see Saturday if the second half C.J. was the guy we get going forward, but given how highly the coaches & his teammates spoke about him this spring/summer, I suspect it is.

I certainly hope it is, because the amount of mouth breathing members of this fanbase clamoring for a kid who should be in High School right now to replace him was stupid and the moment he makes his next mistake (and he will make some), they'll be out in force again.

I thought he was outstanding yes. On the road, at night, in the rain and his TD throws were exactly where they needed to be. Even the swing pass had to go over a blitzing player to get to Trey. He certainly can improve and he will but for a first start? Yeah he was outstanding overall IMO.

That was something that frustrated me with some of our fans immensely last week. Kid was making, for all intents and purposes, his college debut last week on the road against a B1G opponent in lousy weather. Of course he was going to struggle some. But, almost immediately a bunch of dummies were screaming to bench him and put in Ewers. Nevermind that Ewers should be getting ready for his homecoming dance, they skip right over McCord & Miller.

Were people actually calling for Ewers? He literally wasn’t even in the state where the game was being played.

But those that were overreacting to a 19 year old’s first half of football on the road in bad weather, they later manned up and admitted they were wrong. Right? Right?

The problem is participating in the game thread. I have no idea who these people are and I think that’s better for me and them.

It’s worse that a lot of ‘em only show up for game threads to drag players who are having a rough game, then they proceed to ghost Sunday through Friday.

It’s a big part of why I generally stay out of game threads outside of half time and post game. I’m about to start rage-banning some of them (and I have a list from last Thursday).

Bash Ryan Day. Bash Corey Dennis. Bash Kerry Coombs to your hearts content. They’re all highly paid to take that smoke. But bashing 18-23 year olds for not meeting your personal expectations for the program is not fucking OK.

That's something that always bothers me too. Seeing a bunch of people that are never on the board except for game threads doing the most bitching. I usually just keep the board open in "Spy" and follow along, but rarely post during a game. Seems some people definitely cross a line when it comes to the board rules about "bashing". I know we are all passionate about the Bucks, but it sure is obvious that common sense ain't too common anymore.

Last Thursday was the worst I can remember

Not that the Bellisari Bashing on Bucknuts wasn’t worse back in the day. It was much worse

What made last Thursday the worst was people who were passing judgement on a quarterback in the first 15 minutes of his career.

Oregon has more and better athletes than Minnesota had. In the unfathomable event that one of them has the temerity to make a play or two and some of the same idiots show up, I challenge all other mods to a race. Let’s see who can ban the most, the fastest
