QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

CJ is just way off here...

1. Everyone knew Ewers was coming to osu early because of Texas NIL rules as early as July. So him saying he didn't know until the day Ewers showed up is ridiculous.

2. Ewers only showed up because of his NIL situation.

3. Ewers wasn't beating out Stroud regardless.

Pretty insecure of CJ to think Ewers (who should've been playing HS ball) was going to show up the last week of fall camp and start.

Eh, athletes just say whatever everyone else is saying or expects them to say. Those are pretty canned responses - just not used to answer the right question or situation. They make no sense but CJ probably thought he was saying the right thing to sound competitive/tough/professional (in the sense pros always talk about fear of getting cut or teams tossing players aside).

Travis Kelce got on the mic right after the Super Bowl talking about how no one believed in the Chiefs. Nevermind they have been 1 or 2 favorite to win the Super Bowl the last 4-5 years. It’s just what people say/do nowadays.

He had a funny way of manifesting that in close games if true.
agreed but I look more at his Utah & Georgia performances. I mean he single handedly won that damn Utah game. Georgia was vs a borderline NFL defense and he put up 40.... woulda been more had Day not shit the bed play calling.

It’s semantics on my part I guess but I don’t equate a Jordan level checkers choker with good stats in a loss.

He beat Utah. He put up good numbers in losses to Oregon, tsun x 2 and UGA.

Not a choke you over checkers/find a way to win type in my mind. The Bill Russel/Jordan/Montana types find a way to win.

To be fair, Jordan was in that category (great stats in losses) until he got some help with Pippen. Hell, Larry Bird said he was God disguised as Jordan when he put up 63 points in that playoff loss. CJ would probably have a natty if the defense wasn't putrid ass against scUM and UGA

Montana’s teams always found a way to win. Marino always put up good numbers. History remembers them differently

Seem to recollect that Ewers was slated to come in the year after CJ. That being said, Ewers decided to move up a class, as Texas wouldn't let a HS kid receive NIL $. So, he called Day and said, "I'm a coming tomorrow" one year early. Worked with the twos, as CJ was installed as QB, and when the company paying Ewers his $1 million (? - some powers drink ??), said, "hey, we're not paying you a million to sit on the pine", Ewers went to Day and asked if he could start some. Day (according to what I read/rumor), told Ewers that he was behind a QB that went to the Heisman finals last year, but if you can beat him out, as best player plays. Sooo, Ewers packed his bags, and transferred to Texas, all within four months of his showing up with his mullet. Certain that someone will remember differently, but CJ's pro enough to know that colleges recruit best talent behind whomever they have on the field all of the time. Kinda think this is a smoke, but no fire thingy.

Yep. I remember the Olympics in Rio. After he won his gold medal in the 100 or whatever race it was, Usain Bolt, USAIN MOTHERFUCKING BOLT, got on and said it was for all his doubters. I said at the time, "who the hell doubted you?" He may have been the biggest overdog in the history of track and field.

They just go to great lengths to motivate themselves

Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud Explain How They Play Off Each Other Like ‘Shaq and Kobe’

nfl-mock-draft-cj-stroud-bryce-young-2023.jpg

Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud hadn’t had a moment to reflect as they sat in the corner of a lavish downtown L.A. hotel minutes after chatting with Michael Vick and hours after a meet-and-greet lunch with Tom Brady, hip-hop artist Travis Scott and Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin.

Stroud isn’t one to look back, and Young avoids looking ahead. They’re also uncomfortable discussing their Oct. 29 game between Stroud’s Texans and Young’s Panthers—potentially the first time the two quarterbacks will face each other since the eighth grade.

“We still don’t have starting positions yet,” Stroud told Sports Illustrated on Thursday. “There’s a lot of work to be done. A lot of camaraderie to get. That’s just way down the line. We’re locked in on OTAs next week.

“I’m looking forward to just the jersey swap.”

Jersey swaps are guaranteed, because Young and Stroud were selected Nos. 1 and 2 last month, becoming the first pair of Black quarterbacks to be picked back to back at the top of the NFL draft. They also happen to be childhood friends, and they were together again for their first NFL business trip in their hometown while rubbing elbows with billionaires and legendary quarterbacks.

After an eventful first day of networking at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere, Stroud and Young didn’t need a reminder of their accomplishments, but time stopped for just a few seconds.

“I don’t want to sound desensitized to it, but we’re used to doing a lot of things together,” Stroud says. “Honestly, since the process started, we were training together. We got to play basketball together. We got to do a lot of things together, [NFL scouting] combine, drafted one and two. That’s a blessing to see somebody from the same place and the same skin color to be able to prosper even better than you.

“I think that’s something that’s a testament to both of us, that we care about each other. We want to see each other succeed more than ourselves, honestly. Always check up on each other, make sure we’re straight. It’s a blessing because that’s very rare. You don’t get that a lot to where two people are from similar areas, similar backgrounds. Usually they collide. Me and Bryce are kinda like yin and yang.”

Stroud went on to say he meshes well with Young, despite having a different personality. He referred to himself as an extrovert and Young as an introvert.

“We play off each other like Shaq and Kobe,” Stroud says.

I don't think either of them actually understand the dynamic between Shaq and Kobe.
