QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

Braxton did. The key will be if Braxton still will. For Braxton, it was the mental side of the game and accuracy. He in theory should have vastly improved the mental side from his junior season, and if he can get back his strong arm I think he's the starter.
Braxton had (and I'm using the past tense, because we don't know if there will be lingering effects from the shoulder issues, as you noted) a very good arm. But Cardale's arm is, to my eye, is in the top 10% of any QBs out there college or pro. Like I said, watch some of the throws he made against Oregon, and the 3rd down to Marshall in particular. There are not many QBs period that can make that throw, at that velocity, with that accuracy. And his touch has looked significantly better than Brax's...especially on the deep ball where Brax was pretty scattershot.

Only throw you need to see.. vs Illinois in the 4th.. he lasered one in there in the endzone with the guy draped all over him that only the receiver could catch... he ended up not catching it but man.. that throw was money... NFL Money.

edit:one minute mark

so if Miller is so great then why is there so much speculation, even before this injury, thats he's not an NFL QB? He just doesn't have anything close to an NFL arm from what i see

No Bratxon didnt have anything close to a strong arm, he didnt even have a stronger arm then Barrett.
Ok, so you started watching OSU football starting this year, didn't you? If you don't believe Braxton had a strong arm, whatever that's your opinion even if it's wrong. But if you think Barrett had a stronger arm, you either never watched Braxton throw or just aren't very observant.

GQBOAT!
Look we get it Buckeyesin07, you think Jones is the greatest thing since sliced bread, no one will ever compare. i mean its not like he was 3rd string for a coach with 3 NCs and one of the all time best winning percentages without reason or something.

But the good chances are still there Barrett wins those 3 games, maybe Miller as well.

Put your pride aside and shut up for a bit, will ya?

The NFL is different then these last 3 games...EVERYONE IN the program had Cardales back..as we have seen in the NFL that rarely happens..each player has his own agenda and coaches have SYSTEMS and players must conform. I just think about RG3 and the Skins, Browns and Manziel, Leak, Russell..he has 3 games of experience he has to have the right situation...I doubt if he started for Illinois or Purdue their last 3 games there would be little NFL talk. Just trying to be realistic. Cardale will always be a legend at tOSU..that doesn't mean crap..to Brandon Marshall, Dez Bryant, etc. Also he won't have a back rushing for 200plus yards in every start.

He's a special talent. You can't teach his size and arm strength. I was also pleasantly stunned by his accuracy. The question marks will, obviously, be experience, his ability to read complex defenses, and moving through progressions. Not gonna lie... those are pretty big question marks.
Biggest thing that won't work is his habit of stepping BACK when faced with pressure.

He certainly stood tall, looked downfield and made plays up the middle with his legs, but there were numerous plays where he bailed out 10 yards backwards to escape pressure. Kept yelling that during his games. That comes with time.

Otherwise, he's one of the best QBs on the board.

Nope, been watching for about 34 years now. Braxtons got pretty average arm, nothing special. Its wrong, sorry, dont know what to tell you. If its so great why was he a projected RB/WR for the draft even before the injury?

This isn't a knock on any of our QBs but if you're just looking at pure passing ability Cardale seems a notch above JT who is a notch above Braxton, making Jones the best NFL prospect at this time. As far as running skills I'd put them in the opposite order. All of them have shown they can win at the collegiate level.

Agreed, but we're talking college QB in Urban's system. If Braxton gets his arm strength that he had 2 years ago back I don't see how Cardale would be the starter. Better pro prospect, yes. But not better OSU QB.

Braxton's arm is/was plenty strong for the NFL. What he has lacked is the accuracy/touch, IMO. Plus, he was prone to making some bad throws. Now, that's not to say he couldn't have made a significant leap this year had he not been injured. I think he improved exponentially year-to-year from 2011-13, so another leap may have happened.

Agreed. However from the limited exposure he got, I saw skills that translate to the NFL. That dart over the middle against Oregon is the big standout. Cardale knows he doesn't have to force a throw, anticipates the window and drills it.

He's raw potential, but damn does he have a lot of it.
