QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

Isn't it general football strategy to throw the deep ball on 1st and 10 (or 2nd and short) around the 40? That's not indicative of Jones' tendencies.

Plus, you can have the receiver running deep, but you don't have to pass to him. You can pass to an underneath receiver. Maybe Jones just knew his receiver could win all of those battles against Wisconsin. Maybe against 'Bama, and their ability to cover that long ball, Jones throws to a receiver running a shorter pattern, or a running back, or (as Mili pointed out) a tight end.

All possibilities.

As is the continued exploitation of Devin Smith's speed on the deep ball and consequent gorilla rape of the Tide by the Buckeyes.

Honestly, I was more impressed with Cardale's short passes than the deep balls, and I thought the TDs were good throws.

I expect us to exploit Cardale's velocity on short passes against Alabama if he can be on target and receivers continue to catch the fastballs. The time it was taking Cardale to get the ball out to the edge was unreal. Now that's were the arm strength can really be exploited.

There was one play where he faked the handoff and whipped it to WR that went for a good gain. Tie that in with the deep ball and I'm confident in Cardale. If he can execute, that's one hell of a way to stretch Bama vertically and horizontally.

I loved the check down to Corey Smith. Made sure the ball was low and hit him in stride.

"12 Gauge!";
"Cardale Jones, Cardale Jones, Car-dale Jones!";
"Blood. THIRSTY!"

Say what you want about the guy but Gus Johnson is exactly what college football needs in the booth. He's freaking as excited as those kids are and I LOVE IT!

The scream he let out after going up 45-0 was hilarious. March Madness isn't the same without Gus.

Could Cardale become the new face of the Ohio State offense? His skill set is very different than the 2 previous Heisman Trophy/All Big Ten QBs.
He's a better NFL prospect right now. How good can he become? Great size. Great arm. He's maturing and seems smart enough to be an NFL level QB.
He'll have the best group of weapons around him that any Urban Meyer/Ohio State QB has had, yet. History with Urban would say a running QB will still be in the mix next year.
These Bowl games and practices could be a huge starting point for his career.
Was all he needed just an "opening" to jump to the next level?
Maybe.

I mean, obviously that was the plan. JT's ankle is fine. So is Braxton's arm. They're taking one for the team, letting the beast get his chance to play only when needed, to stomp Bucky on the way to the playoffs and to usurp Bama's throne on the way to the Natty. Then Cardale gets drafted in the first round and becomes the all-time leading QB in every category ever over the course of a 12 year career, returning to Ohio State once he retires to coach this team to 26 straight national championships.

Obviously it's all part of Urban's intricate scheme to take over the world.

Cardale's better passes may have been the dump offs to Corey Smith and Marshall. C. Smith is emerging as a reliable threat.
The number of weapons this offense has is impressive and hard to defend.

Smith - Love how he pancakes guys on his comeback blocks. I still think the hit he made on the UW LB was legit. He has definitely picked up his game.

Mel Kiper says Jones has the "best arm in college football". If CJ blows up in the playoffs he could conceivably go pro.
That's big speculation though. Are the stars aligned for him right now?
I look for Jones to have solid games and stick around for another year.
He could make himself millions of dollars with ONE great season of college football.

He is going to need more than three games of game experience to play in the NFL, let alone get a team to spend a draft pick on him.

That is more like it. I remember a QB for the Bengals named Smith who had only one good year flame out. But he still made some money in the process. Where Cardale has that great year is still up for debate.
