QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

I'd imagine that OSU will go somewhat run heavy with CJ at QB. Some of that is owing to Jones not being as accurate a passer as JT, but more to the point - I would think OSU would want to keep the ball out of Melvin Gordon's hands as long as possible.

I agree with everything you're saying here...

So, they probably won't do it.

I am pretty sure JT didn't overtake him on the depth chart until late.
Shouldn't the backup be preparing all season for this? It's not like he has spent the past three months just sitting on a bench in practice, I hope. He should have the playbook down. He has been in this offense for a couple years, played in many games, and played in the biggest of them all this past weekend in meaningful minutes. It's not like we just signed this guy out of high school yesterday. If he isn't prepared to the best of his ability...then that's on the coaching staff.

I don't know much, but one thing I do know is a 250 lb QB and a 220 lb RB running an option has to make some Wiscy defenders sore just thinking about it.

Let's hope the defense can step up and slow down Gordon and put Jones in a good position to succeed.

I think that this is the key. The defense has to step up. If it's a shoot-out, I don't know that we win. A third-string quarterback shouldn't be expected to do too much. Hold Wisconsin to 20 points and we win, though.

Color me scarlet here :pimp: but you don't get recruited by a guy like Urbs, to a program like tOSU unless you are MASSIVELY talented...There is no question that Cardale isn't JT, but thats ok, the coaches will put him in a position that play to HIS strengths, with all the weapons available to CJ his first, second, and last priority should be avoiding turnovers. As others have said, the kid has been around, he knows the system, and the coaches know what he does well. With his cannon for an arm I can see him taking the top off the defense early and often. JT is gonna give the guys a talk pre game and they are gonna come out BLAZING, Bucks roll in this one! In Cardale I trust!

I would love to see a bunch of 3,4 and 5 yard plays that keep the chains moving for us for long periods at a time.

We've been dink'd and dunk'd enough over the years to have plenty of film demonstrating how it works.

Keep the chains moving by all means necessary.

When that doesn't work, pin them deep and hold them. Don't overrun their running game trying to get to a largely ineffective passer, play latterly on the Dline and from the LB position.

Play tight coverage on their receivers and don't get burned on the deep ball. Make Mr. Yipps beat us. They haven't spread it out all season and if they try to do it now, Yippy won't have enough reps to get through his progressions effectively.

We do that and I don't see how we don't win.

AJ you're right. That's really the only thing we have to do IMO to win the game outside of no turnovers. If we stop the run they have no one like #4 last year to beat us deep and the only thing we have to do from there is to not turn the ball over.

Just sayin': He wasn't really recruited by Urban. Jones committed on 9/7/11 which was almost 3 months before Urban was hired. Obviously Urban did honor the commitment though.
