QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

Too bad we need his services as a backup QB because he can bring it. But for real...we need him at QB. Backups are important ask Guiton...or JT Barrett.

With Miller, Barrett, and Collier on the roster next season, plus Burrow, possibly Gibson, and then Clark coming in the next two classes, is the best use of Jones's talents really going to be standing on the sideline waiting for at least two injuries on the depth chart ahead of him or mop-up duty in a five possession blowout? Also, is QB the best position he could play projecting him to the NFL?

I think there's a legitimate discussion to be had whether him staying in the QB meeting room is in the best interest of the team and him personally.

First, I am still in this season where we have 2 QB's and one of them is Jones...Collier came in early and got something in the ballpark of one snap in the spring game, so I am not even counting him on the roster right now. Even looking forward to next season...Miller may not even recover to play QB, Collier I have no idea on, and neither of Burrow/Gibson are remotely close to playing D1 ball. This is not an indictment on anyone, I am just saying they are not developed enough to play.

But if I indulge the best-case scenario where Brax and JT are healthy...then yes, a discussion would be warranted at that point. But much like the JT vs. Braxton debate, it is incredibly premature...then again, that's what the internets are for

He seems like he could be a good QB. Granted, he's really only played in mop up time so who really knows, but I like watching him play his current position.

Well, right now he's only one injury away.

It's not a given that he'd get on the field at any other position. I don't care about his height and weight and 40-time... There are plenty of young men who roughly match those dimensions that don't belong on the field for Ohio State. Perhaps it's worth a look... in spring practice.

This coaching staff has shown their willingness to move players around, even midseason. Right now he's at the most important position on the team. It also happens to be the most difficult position to prepare to play. Even if he could be used at another position it seems like it would be easier to keep him where he is and switch him to something else than perhaps having to do it the other way around.

I would argue he is very valuable at QB right now. To suggest he isn't would assume that Miller will make a successful rehab and that Barrett's knee will hold up. Maybe Jones will be third string and never see the field next year, but he would only be 2 damaged joints away from playing time. Unless, of course, Collier shows to be a better player by that time but I have yet to hear that. Here's hoping, though.

He should get more playing time just to throw a wrench into the MSU defense. Let their DBs come up and try to tackle him a few times and see how they like that. Wear them out with physical play and then use speed to burn them. CJ can throw the football pretty well..at least from what I saw at the Illinois game.
