QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

No, he's the exact same player he was last 3gms, it's just that the last 3gms, the opposing DCs didn't have much film to dissect his game. Now every opponent in the nation had 3gms to watch after the NC. While fans jumped up and down, Cardale tweeted stars and lived it up, DCs all over the B1G and our OOC schedule watched how inaccurate Cardale is/was, as well as his inability to read defenses. Fans used the common myth that his arm opened up the run game, and that EzE had his biggest runs due to teams mainly focusing on the deep ball from Cardale. Now that DCs are literally daring Cardale to throw deep and find open intermediate routes, by disguising defenses they're seeing he can't find open men and holds the ball too long. He threw some prayers to Devin and we got spoiled, and now the excuses is not only that lost Devin(our supposed only deep threat), but the lose of so many WRs hurts Cardale. In the Rutgers game I saw JT with also a depleted WR corp find open men time after time, heck when JT was the red zone QB he found the open man, Cardale has not and has been easily confused by the defense. Heaven help him if he thinks the defense in the NFL is easier...
Thought of this today as well... No one knew about CJ a year ago and into the early parts of this season. However, once they got tape they've noticed some things that they can do to cause CJ problems. Namely bringing pressure, taking away the deep throw and forcing him to be accurate, and then taking away the running game. I do not feel it has anything to do with CJ tweeting Ronda Rausey or anything of the sort but thus far CJ hasn't been able to be accurate enough to thwart the other teams plans.

I mentioned the tweeting part because it has to do with a team no longer being hungry after winning a title, something Meyer mentioned many times after the season ended. Imagine being 21 and going from being a 3rd string QB to a backup all season barely seeing any PT, and then thrust into the biggest games of the teams season after finishing the game against your biggest rival. I'm sure any guy would get a tad of an ego after seeing the success he did in such a short period of time. It's like he literally won the lottery. But it didn't seem like he worked on his weaknesses in the off season, and Urban seemed to be giving him the benefit of the doubt after winning the NC, a very loyal position. But now he's seeing that Cardale doesnt have the best skill set for this offense.

I see your point and while he tweet's (from what can tell through BP) too much for my liking not every great player has to be closed off either.... I see your point but it's hard to pin point that as a reason for his struggles.

I'm not pinpointing solely that. Just using it as an example of kids losing their edge and hunger once winning it all and having the world at your fingertips in the span of 2mos. When you can change your profile, or send out a tweet and it makes Sports center and/or an article is written to dissect it, its hard not to have a little out of control ego that can hinder your on the field work. I'm hoping this demotion is a humbling experience and allows him to work harder at becoming a complete QB

I get you... I think CJ is a little big of a "center of attention" kind of guy but most athletes (especially the good ones) tend to be that way. I prefer the style of Troy Smith or JT Barrett where as they just lock themselves away from social media (Troy never had the social media aspect but he was a similar leader to JT) rather than to go make everything public but to each of their own.

Disagree, Mike can definitely get jump balls, and between Braxton, Jalin, Curtis there's several deep threats.
Braxton is playing his first season as a WR. Jalin is also a converted QB, and Curtis is a RB, who had to switch to WR because of injuries. Raw talent isn't the problem, but I have seen a few incompletions that would have been TDs if they were thrown to Smith last year. Not a knock on any of them, Smith was really good and had several years experience in the role.

I think a lot of us... MYSELF included owe the big fella a huge apology. None of this season's struggles were on him. As a offense we failed (particularly the staff) and we couldn't find who we were with Cardale or JT.

WISH we could've given you a better chance to be successful. Look forward to seeing CJ in the NFL

"None" is a bit much. Our offensive struggles weren't on any one person - including the official scapegoat (Beck). It's been a combination of things, including Cardale not playing as well as he did last season. He's not been alone in that regard, however.

Ok I knew it's come.. sure SOME blame but now that we can all see it doesn't matter who the QB is. It sure makes some of our perspective that CJ was holding us back look really ridiculous

His point was that no QB is perfect, yet people were holding CJ to a perfect standard. As bad as the play calling was tonight, JT had his chances--the overthrow to Brax being an obvious example.

Cardale gave us a championship last season, he is forever a legend in Ohio State football history. He didn't put up stats like we thought he would but what he did do for us was nothing short of amazing. Imagine coming in first 3 starts, B1G championship, Playoff vs the 'mighty Alabama' and then NC against Oregon who was 'too fast' for OSU. Thank you Cardale for the heart and effort to the team.

Sucks to be in that group. Embarrassing how some fans treated this kid.
