Lots of pretty good teams this year. Nobody looking dominant. Just seems really weird like the playoff impact is already affecting teams attitudes. No longer is it an attitude of 'we have to look dominant' or 'lose once and your done.' etc. In that respect I guess it's kind of nice - if you are a Power 5 school, just win your conference. But the side effect almost seems like teams are biding their time or something.

I can't think of a year in recent memory with such a minor overall change in the top 10-12 teams. Sure there are 3-4 who look a little better than the rest but the change from 1 to 12 just doesn't seem as dramatic as usual. Maybe it's just me but it just seems like a playoff with 12 teams could see just about any of them win it at this point. Lot's of games left to play though.

I think the only schools with an attitude of fearing the selection committee are those in the Big 12. They know they have to remain perfect to get a bid into the playoffs over a team that has won a conference championship game.

The SEC champion gets a free pass (since they are the SEC...:shake:); and the ACC, Big XII, and B1G still could have undefeated champions. Somebody beats Utah (which is likely) and/or the PAC12 conference champion has 2 losses (or more); and the PAC12 might be the "odd conference out" this year.

Regardless there is still a lot of football to be played this year. About this time last year Ohio State was still "dead in the water" for a CFP spot so anything can still happen.

If there is carnage like 2007 with 1 zero or 1 loss team Power 5 and a bunch of 2 loss power 5's I could see them taking an undefeated C5 like Houston or Toledo instead of one of the 2 loss champions

Ever see photos of the Dr. Mudd and associates execution... yeah the selection committee that would try and pull that off would end up looking like this:

Got a 1st place vote back (up to 28 from 27 last week), but the gap with Baylor narrowed even further (from 21 to 12).

Also noteworthy that Memphis, which had previously been unranked, vaulted to 18 ahead of Toledo and Houston, which had both been previously ranked, and newcomer Temple for the G5/NY6 bowl pick.

Biggest disparity in the AP/Coaches polls would appear to be Utah, which has 16 of 61 possible first place votes (26%) by sportswriters, but only 1 of 63 possible first place votes (1.5%) by the coaches.

I think it's fair re: Memphis. Beating Ole Miss looks like a better win right now than beating Arkansas or Louisville. Memphis and Houston will play each other, so at least they'll settle it on the field. I think Toledo will always be on the outside looking in as long as there is at least one undefeated AAC team.
