Premier League (Official Thread)

When Martin Tyler's voice raises an octave for a split-second, something big either just happened or is about to happen.

I still remember when he was screaming when Federico Macheda scored late against Villa a few years back.

Maybe those final couple saves raises the confidence of the United keeper (de Gea).

It's really going to be interesting to see where "The Special One" lands next season, if he indeed returns to England (I personally don't think he will).

He wants United, but will probably be Spurs (Harry goes to England).

Damn it. Torres just can't be the target up top and make things happen.

Chelsea needs Drogba and then his heir apparent to pick it up..and that is not Torres. The pretty boy has some great skill, but just no nose for the net and no aggression inside the 18. If the blues *must* continue to play him in an effort to recoup the contract..time to go to a 4-4-2 and let him support another striker or at least benefit from the distraction of another scoring threat.

*sigh*

Fernando Torres will go down as the worst return on investment ever at the overspending giants that Chelsea were. The Schvechencko purchase has been one upped by the current disaster that is Torres. He simply CAN'T find the net. AVB has no idea what to do with him and Roman demands his highest priced "asset" must play.

In other news, United somehow fought back to steal a point out of what seemed certain doom. Assisted by 2 penalties from the ref, and 2 more that could have been awarded show one thing. Chelsea were fouling repeatedly in the box and were hoping the referee just let it go.

It's weird and puzzling because Torres was one of the most ruthless strikers in football. His touch, ball control, and runs on the back of defenders are still some of the best I see week in week out (I watch a ton of matches). He just doesn't shoot. Like, ever.

Case in point the match versus ManU. The control to bring the ball down into a shooting position was something only Mata probably couldve done on his team... but then he just didn't shoot. It's crazy.

I'm interested to see how this works out tactically for Spurs today:

Team v Liverpool - (poss 4-2-3-1) Friedel; Walker, Dawson, King, Assou-Ekotto; Livermore, Parker; Kranjcar, Modric, Bale; Adebayor.

No Kaboul today - he's been the team's best center back (and the only healthy one to this point) Lennon and van der Vaart are out as well. Defoe is not available as a sub either. The new additions, Saha and Nelsen are available as subs though.

Bale and Lennon have had the freedom to switch sides of the field, and have made good use of it for most of the season. I assume it's going to be Kranjcar starting out on the right side, and I wonder if he'll have the same freedom as Lennon did. Bale has made himself more dangerous by showing up in different areas of the pitch lately.

Spurs 0:0 Liverpool at halftime.

It's been a lively match so far, back-and-forth action, but with Liverpool being more assertive in the attack. Both teams have been very organized in defense and have made some excellent individual tackles.

So far though the most exciting thing to happen was the stray cat that wandered onto the pitch early in the match.

A few times Spurs have seemed a bit hesitant to shoot. In that regard and in terms of the flow of the attack, they really miss van der Vaart today. Walker really frustrates me at times with his extreme hesitance to make a move to the left with the ball at his feet. I understand that he's more comfortable with the ball on his right foot, but if you get around the guy by going to the left you can get the ball back on your right once you're clear of him. They're inviting him to do it, and he tried it a couple times, but I get tired of the remainder of the times where he gives the ball away because he refused to take the space that's being given to him.

...and Suarez promptly gets booked for kicking Scott Parker in the gut.

Saha is coming on now for Spurs. I don't know why - they have no desire to take the ball forward at this point and or giving away possession far too easily.

Both teams just missed gift-wrapped chances. First Bale had a free run at Reina who was off his line, and shot it straight at him, then Suarez got an open point-blank header the he put right into Friedel's breadbasket.
