Premier League (Official Thread)

Heroic defense from Spurs. Dawson, King & Parker were outstanding all game. Still can't believe Bale didn't do better with his glorious opportunity but I think they're satisfied with a deserved point at Anfield. Liverpool have to be utterly disappointed with the service on there crosses all game, they were virtually all atrocious attempts into the box. Good game for Spurs considering they didn't try all that much to get a winner.

0:0 Final

Spurs' slim title chances take a further hit. Their first order of business though is to secure a Champions League berth, and this point helps keep Chelsea and Liverpool at arms' length. It's a nice accomplishment considering the form the Liverpool has been in lately and the fact that half the starting midfield was missing.

And the midfield was lousy in the attack for Spurs, make no mistake about it. Modric played the worst game I've seen from him. I was impressed with the defensive midfield though and the back line, especially with the way they were bombarded after all the bad giveaways and the lack of teeth in the Spurs attack. Parker, King and Dawson were tremendous.

I just had a general feeling that those two clubs could've played for 200 minutes and neither team would've scored a goal.

That was especially true of Tottenham today. I did feel an impending sense of doom once Suarez came on, so I'm glad they were able to at least hold on for a point.

It's weird and puzzling because Torres was one of the most ruthless strikers in football. His touch, ball control, and runs on the back of defenders are still some of the best I see week in week out (I watch a ton of matches). He just doesn't shoot. Like, ever.

Case in point the match versus ManU. The control to bring the ball down into a shooting position was something only Mata probably couldve done on his team... but then he just didn't shoot. It's crazy.

Torres is so scared of missing the net by 40 feet that he won't shoot the ball. At Liverpool he was always supproted by another striker or 2 wide wing players. He was able to get himself into positions that made shooting very easy and scoring much of the same. Now that he is the focal point of the attack he is wilting under the pressure to do it all by himself with much leass help. If he was playing off of Drogba, Anelka or damn near anyone else, he would be netting 12 to 20 a year. He is NOT a true center forward. He is a classic new age striker. He needs support to make things happen and unlock the defense with him. He doesn't seem comfortable shouldering all of the creative play and the finishing. Oh well, I will be very happy if either Chelsea or Arsenal miss the UCL because Tottenham hold on to third or fourth.

The problem is Chels' back line is in turmoil and they are not strong enough in the middle to leave two up top. With the injuries and the loan...I don't even know what options they really have.

It is a lost season at Stamford bridge...I'm fricken warn out from watching them squander points and struggle to sustain quality play. Plenty of talent..no flow, no consistency. There is always next year....

I'm worn out on them loading up the same type of striker. Anelka, Drogba, and Torres... All playing similar game types. Here's to hoping they get smart.

I agree their back line is in need of serious overhaul. Terry is getting old and was never very fast. David Luiz is young and of questionable decision making. Cashley Cole is same as John Terry. Bosingwa is a only good going forward, Gary Cahill is good, but not the answer, Ivanovic is much like Bosingwa, only the other way. The midfield has Lampard who is past his prime, Essien who has been hurt far too much, Mikel is an interesting case and Ramieres is hard to read. The team needs a consistent manager and vision for the next 5 years. Too many players who just don't fit the system(s).

Drogba and Torres aren't even close to the same player. They have the same issues with inconsistent form, just different ways of going about their business.

At least Drogba knows how to finish...and Anelka gets aggressive inside the box..even if he disappears outside of it. In fact..I kinda see Anelka and Torres as polar opposites of each other. Torres does well away from the net...and even plays some nice through balls ahead for...well....nobody right now..but he seems to see the field well...just not the goal. Anelka only seemed to see the nets.

Drogba was a mosnter there for a minute...but now that he is getting a bit older Chelsea doesn't have any swagger and are not a real threat to control the ball and score. With Lampard and Cole hurt and Drogba in Africa...they are just not a formidable squad. Still...they got a point in a match with Man U where I fully expected them to get rolled. Spur fans can relate...the bules are giving me enough to tease me into being excited...but i know how this story is going to end. :(

Fabio Capello resigns. :slappy:

Between the inflated self-importance and shenanigans like this, there seriously isn't a NT I like seeing fail more than England. Now they can bring in some suit who will make John Terry captain again and all will be well.

I'm all for backing your players, but backing JT and going down backing JT is rather funny (even though that probably wasn't the only reason Capello resigned).

Considering the list is comprised of just one person (for most England supporters), Harry can hold the FA up for ransom (even though that wouldn't be kosher).

I personally thought Joe Hart should've been the starter in Game 1 in South Africa (against USA) just due to his form with Birmingham. But he didn't play.
