Premier League (Official Thread)

Starts at 11:00 EST. Apparently a bunch of markets are showing it late due to "previous programming commitments". In my case these commitments include a Baptist televangelist and informercials.

That sucks.

I'm getting the pre-game right now. It's not as bad as I thought it would be so far. Rob Stone brings a little credibility to the set. Piers Morgan's presence is an insult but at least he knows what he's talking about to an extent. FOX just doesn't seem to trust us to watch somebody who made their name playing, managing or analyzing Premiership football, and went with a gimmick instead.

Mario Balotelli with the game winner over Tottenham in the 94th minute.

Just based on the reaction of the country, there is about zero chance that Mario Balotelli escapes a retroactive ban from the FA after his head stomp on Scott Parker.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16672269.stm

Redknapp felt Balotelli should not have been on the pitch to take the kick and added: "It is up to their manager [Roberto Mancini] to deal with it. I have got my own opinions, but what I would say is that I don't like people kicking other people in the head on football pitches, and I don't think it's wrong to say that.
The estimation is the customary four games (at least from BBC Radio).

Not that bad. Would miss a Carling Cup second leg, Everton, Aston Villa and Fulham. Not worth appealing.

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association and is facing a four-match ban...

...If he accepts the charge, Balotelli would also miss the Premier League trips to Everton and Aston Villa, plus the home encounter with Fulham on 4th February.

According to Grant Wahl of SI.com (via twitter) FOX is working hard to get the FA Cup match b/w Everton & Fulham. Should be plenty of American interest in that one, including Donovan & Dempsey opposing each other for the first time since '06.

My understanding is that the match wasn't going to be shown live anywhere, and that FOX approached Everton and they granted the rights to at least stream it. FSC probably also has some taped stuff running at that time that could be bumped as well.

It's a reassuring statement of intent by FOX after some of their missteps lately. I will say that I can't see ESPN approaching a club like this and finding a way to put this on-air.

The match is being played Friday at 3 PM EST.

Donovan - two assists today in Everton's FA Cup win over Fulham.

I'll say it again, I'd love to have him sending in crosses and corners for Spurs. It seems like he can just put the ball precisely wherever he wants at times.

As if Everton's season hasn't been worse enough. Some fan ran onto the field and handcuffed himself to the post right before the half against City. Can't say I've seen that before.

At the half:

Swansea 1 Chelsea 0
Spurs 2 Wigan 0
Wolves 0 Liverpool 0
Everton 0 Man City 0
United 1 Stoke 0
