College football notebook: Ex-Wisconsin player charged with stalking
Alvarez, Sharapova and families were threatened
Tuesday, December 2, 2008 3:12 AM
Associated Press
A former Wisconsin football player was charged yesterday with threatening athletic director Barry Alvarez, tennis star Maria Sharapova and their families. Leonard Taylor Jr., 32, of Indianapolis, faces one felony stalking count and one misdemeanor count of telephone harassment. Online court records didn't list an attorney for Taylor. His father told police that Taylor is a paranoid schizophrenic and hasn't taken his medication for three months, according to the criminal complaint filed in Dane County (Wis.) Circuit Court.
Taylor played defensive back for the Badgers from 1995 to 1998, when Alvarez was the coach. Taylor also played briefly for the Madison Mad Dogs professional indoor football team.
According to the complaint, Wisconsin head athletic trainer Denny Helwig told police in September that Taylor had been calling Alvarez's office phone and leaving six to seven disturbing messages each night since the beginning of the football season.
Helwig said the messages weren't threatening, but described them as "bizarre."
Taylor left similar messages during the 2007 football season, Helwig said. Those messages consisted mostly of complaining that a television network hadn't paid him money it owed him, a Wisconsin employee identified only as "LW" in the complaint told police.

Texas Tech DB arrested by DEA

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Texas Tech reserve defensive back De'Shon Sanders was arrested Thursday on two cocaine-related charges.

Sanders was arrested in downtown Lubbock about 1:30 a.m., said Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman David Ausiello. The player was charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base, according to a federal indictment filed in New Mexico.

The indictment alleges Sanders and others "known and unknown to the grand jury" committed the cocaine-related offenses in June in Lea County, N.M., where Sanders' hometown of Hobbs is located. Sanders consented to a search of his room in an off-campus apartment in Lubbock, but no drugs were found, Ausiello said.

Observation:

This thread was started at a time when allegations in the media were rife that Ohio State was a "program out-of-control".

Not every transgression by players of other teams has been captured here, but after 1370 posts, we now have a good picture of the recent years in college football.

What do we see? Which programs are out-of-control? How does Ohio State look among top programs?

Enough said.

Florida State wide receiver Parker posts $500 bond on DUI charge

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida State receiver Preston Parker has been released from jail after posting a $500 bond.

Parker was arrested early Saturday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Tallahassee police arrested the 21-year-old after officers found him passed out in his car in a McDonald's drive-thru lane.

He was released from the Leon County jail Saturday evening. Jail records on Sunday did not show any attorney listed for Parker.

Police said Parker's blood alcohol content was below the state's drunken-driving limit. However, his urine sample was presumptive positive for marijuana. A police news release states that Parker admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.

Well, this is the spot for it. Which is worse, the drinking problem, that he crapped on his draft status, or that wherever he goes from now on people will yell "Don't Taz me Bro!!!"?

Video shows Mississippi coach Andy Kennedy pleading with Cincinnati police - ESPN

A newly released police video shows Mississippi basketball coach Andy Kennedy pleading with an officer before his arrest on an assault charge. He added: "This is going to be a national incident, sir." Kennedy was arrested in downtown Cincinnati on Dec. 18 after a taxi driver said Kennedy hit him and used racial slurs.
In response to his pleas, an officer said: "You think we've never arrested somebody that's made national media? ... We deal with the Bengals all the time."

Mods please move this if it's not in the right spot.
