Two players ousted from Penn State Team - connections alluded to October Brawl

Chris Bell & Phillip Taylor out for now in State Colleege - both Juniors.

Friday afternoon, Penn State athletics issues a short statement:

"Chris Bell and Phillip Taylor are not participating with the team until such time that their academic situation improves and any off-the-field issues are behind them."
The team, in this instance, is the Penn State football team.
FightOnState.com first reported the suspensions on its premium message board Thursday afternoon. At the time, a representative of the athletic department said he had no knowledge of the situation.
Sources have told FOS that the suspensions likely are not permanent.
While the PSU release is vague, Centre County prosecutors have suggested both players may have been involved in an October brawl at the HUB that resulted in the arrests of Nittany Lions Chris Baker, Navorro Bowman and Knowledge Timmons. Baker and Bowman have been bound over for trial on felony assault charges in connection to the fight. Timmons faced lesser charges.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame tight end Will Yeatman was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor counts of drunken driving and criminal recklessness after allegedly driving a car on a campus sidewalk with his headlights off in the early morning hours.

The charges were filed a day after Yeatman, a 19-year-old sophomore, was suspended indefinitely from the football and lacrosse teams for an undisclosed violation of team policy. He remains enrolled in school, university spokesman Dennis Brown said.

It's pretty obviuous that the team policy is that if you're going to drive drunk on the sidewalk after midnight, you will have your lights on...

Vols' Fulmer dismisses two players

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer dismissed defensive back Antonio Wardlow and reserve linebacker Dorian Davis for violations of team rules.

Wardlow, a sophomore from Winston-Salem, N.C., saved the Vols' win over Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl with an interception on the 1-yard line with less than a minute left.

It was not immediately known why Wardlow was dismissed. He was one of three Vols arrested after a fight outside a Knoxville nightclub in November 2006.

Davis, a sophomore who played in 24 games at Tennessee, mostly on special teams, was cited for fighting in his Iowa hometown in October.

Ex-Texas RB gets 5 months
Taylor violated probation from felony drug possession

BELTON, Texas (AP) -- Ramonce Taylor, the former Texas running back who had 15 touchdowns in the Longhorns' 2005 national championship season, is serving five months in jail for violating probation.

The sentence District Judge Martha Trudo handed down Thursday also includes five years probation upon his release.

Given Taylor's history of multiple probation violations in recent months, including positive drug tests, Trudo said he can get drug and alcohol counseling "that he obviously needs" while in jail.
