Former Hofstra Team Manager Sues for Sexual Harrassment

Apparently she won that Miss Teen thing in 2001 - only 6 years to get those extra pounds?
Former Hofstra Football Manager Alleges Harassment

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) ― A former athletic manager for the Hofstra University football team claims she was repeatedly subjected to sexist comments, including being harassed during the showing of an interracial pornographic movie on a team bus, according to a federal discrimination lawsuit.

Lauren Summa, a 23-year-old graduate student, also claims her complaints to coaches and university officials went unheeded, and that she was dropped from the team's athletic staff after speaking out.

A former Miss Teen Pennsylvania from Mount Lebanon, Pa., Summa claims in the lawsuit that after being hired to work as a team manager -- duties included record-keeping, clearing the practice field of equipment and other small tasks -- she was subjected to sexual harassment "during every bus trip that she made in the 2006 season."

The most egregious episode came on a bus ride home from the team's final game against the University of Massachusetts following a 2-9 season. An assistant coach put a pornographic film on the bus's video player that at one point featured an interracial sex scene, Summa's lawsuit claims.

Players immediately began shouting and yelling obscenities, Summa said, including one who confronted her yelling, "This is what you white women want ..." Soon after complaining, she said the coach turned off the video.

On looking into this thread, I suddenly remembered back to when jimotis4heisman started it. At that time, he started it because ESPiN and the other "sports journalists" were painting Ohio State with a tar brush as the center of all evil in sports.

JO4H wanted to start a thread just so we could keep track of how we did versus other programs.

Seems to me like a time that we all might just go back and rep him. We now have a thread with nearly 1100 posts. How many of these have focused on someone at Ohio State? Almost none.

Greenies for you buddy!

Just a li'l nitpick....this thread isn't a good indicator of what kind of angels wear scarlet and gray.....because if/when OSU players get in trouble, it shows up in the main forum, not here. Searching this thread for "Henton" for example turns up just one post completely unrelated to his off-field issue.

The same is partially true for UM since there is a separate UM news thread and certain players have their own thread too. Manningham for example is missing from this thread.

Hey now, stop clogging this thread up with unnecessary things like logic and facts, man just when I was starting to like you.

Good point, but it makes we tOSU fans feel vindicated about how we felt when we were being beaten down by eSpin and the media. It's funny how it seems that any transgression by tOSU gets a lot more air time than some of the things mentioned in here that are much more serious and legit.

To see the sheer number of State Penn football players listed is staggering, yet JoePa is still forgiven as being the kindly old grandfather type.

Perhaps you misunderstand my point, vulvarine-breath.

At the time this thread began, there was article after article making large about Ohio State being out of control. Usually, they tied together the last two years of Cooper's term, when discipline did shift downward, and the first year of Tressel's term and tried to make it seem like eight players had been busted in a short-term. IIRC, half of those arrests were DUI-related stuff.

Even during a bowl game, we had a non-stop assault on our coaches and players by the ESPiN boys.

Meanwhile, all manner of crap was going on elsewhere and receiving little comparative coverage, including players shooting other folks, etc. Problems that cast a negative light on media darling coaches (e.g., Ferentz) were ignored. There were no similar outcries to investigate issues at USC (Bush, the subsidized rent issue, etc), even after Ohio State had been cleared by two NCAA investigations. Only when Andy Geiger resigned did the crap stop.

This thread did a lot to show Buckeye fans that they could hold their heads up high and that media bullcrap was just that. OK, Henton gets caught in a sting operation. In the end, it turns out that the police really have no evidence except the sting cop's word, despite the fact that they recorded the conversation. To get the matter finalized, he pleaded out to a lesser offense.

So, how does the arrest record of Ohio State athletes compare to Penn State? Or Tennessee? Or Iowa? Or, well, you pick any major program?

Ohio State compares favorably to just about any program in America. And because a thread like this one exists, Buckeye fans have the information they need to refute the type of incoherent, inaccurate smears Ohio State experienced during that disgusting attack.

This thread is not a comprehensive archive of all football players or major sports athletes in college who have been arrested or charged with a crime. So, the fact that threads exist elsewhere is not really indicative that Ohio State has something to hide. Quite the contrary. Read through this thread. We don't have guys firing guns in nightclubs, beating up people in bars, hustling drug dealers, killing others, etc.

I would argue that this thread is indeed representative of the fact that Ohio State runs an extremely clean program. As an alumni and former professor, I am very proud of them.

I guess I thought this was the 'official' thread for off-field tomfoolery... but never felt like it was a problem if things were missed.

the purpose of this threas was once upon a time everything was out of control and people were calling for heads, coaches, ads etc. this thread was my way of laying out there what happens nationwide. this thread doesnt include everything and in reality is not updated that well compared to many of the other ones. this thread does provide us with a few things:

1-a source to search through in one spot for information
2-a view on the environment of the world we live in, more so the student athletes we love to watch.
3-it shows us that bad things happen everywhere, people make bad choices, they face them later.
4-it gives us as a community some sort of measuring stick.

this stick is what i wanted to point out, was it a proud time to be a buckeye? maybe if you had a lot of pride and could wade through, today as we are on a higher road, one of academic, atheletic and off field success we can joke about this, at certain times it was not true. i think it is important to look at this thread for a view on the world. have we had legal incidents, yes. will we have more, yes. are they commonplace at theosu, no. that being said, no one wants kids or anyone to get in trouble.

i didnt start the thread in an attempt to dirty the world to make theosu look clean. it was to show where others stand, i feel that the university needs to be a beacon. if the desire is to do something great- lets do it on the field, in the class room and in the community...

Koufos with the block (albeit vs a PG fadeaway J), misses the fast break chance. Nearly throws ball away.

Gets pass to low block but cannot maintain possession.

PSU drains another 3, 19-12... 9-0 run.

Arena already being scoured for suitable rails.

or maybe i started this thread for josh to look like a fool...

Henton is about the only legal issue OSU has had over the last few years, and even that was never really proven (Henton pled out to a reduced misdemeanor). Not even in the same csmos as Penn State and some other programs. The point was that ESPN wanted to drag our ass through the mud every fucking chance they got over the most bullshit stuff, and yet PSU should be named Prison Supporters University with all the serous crimes players have committed yet you don't hear a single peep from ESPN.

Not only that, but the State Penn fans still wave the 'clean program' flag like they a bunch of angels or something.

Tennessee's Faison charged with DUI

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer has suspended walk-on player Vince Faison for the first two games of the 2008 season after he was arrested for drunken driving.

Faison was arrested on charges of DUI sometime between late Friday night and early Saturday morning.

"Vince has embarrassed himself and his team. We expect all our players -- scholarship or walk-on -- to be good citizens," said Fulmer in a UT release.

"Any breaking of a law is serious. A DUI is a very serious offense."
Faison will be suspended for two games and required to undergo alcohol evaluation and counseling in addition to other internal punishments, Fulmer said.

The 27-year-old defensive back enrolled at UT in January.

Faison is the fifth Vols player charged by police in less than a month.

Oklahoma State TE Pettigrew won't be suspended until case plays out

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew, charged with assaulting a police officer, will remain a part of the team while his court case plays out, coach Mike Gundy said Wednesday.

"At this particular time of year it doesn't serve a purpose to suspend him," Gundy said. "What do you suspend him from? I can't do anything until it runs its course. I'm not in position to be the judge and do all that."

Before Wednesday, Gundy had not publicly commented on the situation since Pettigrew, 22, was arrested on Jan. 20, when police officers responded to an altercation involving 10 to 15 people at a Stillwater residence. Police have said the group was asked to disperse, but the 6-foot-6, 260-pound Pettigrew refused to leave and allegedly elbowed an officer in the chest.

At his arraignment in Payne County District Court two days later, he pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of assault and battery on a police officer and a misdemeanor count of public intoxication. Pettigrew's next court appearance is scheduled for March 3.

Fighting Irish tight end Yeatman charged with DUI

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame tight end Will Yeatman was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor counts of drunken driving and criminal recklessness after allegedly driving a car on a campus sidewalk with his headlights off in the early morning hours.

The charges were filed a day after Yeatman, a 19-year-old sophomore, was suspended indefinitely from the football and lacrosse teams for an undisclosed violation of team policy. He remains enrolled in school, university spokesman Dennis Brown said.

A probable cause affidavit said Yeatman, a 6-foot-6, 263-pound tight end from San Diego, was arrested at 2:49 a.m. on Jan. 28 by campus police. Yeatman, who was released on $250 cash bond, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.11 percent, said Catherine Wilson, spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office. A blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent is considered too drunk to drive under Indiana law.

Shenanigans out the Wazzu - a case with "illegal contacts", or alcohol rubbing a teammate the wrong way?

si.com

Two Wazzu players reprimanded
Starter Ahmu, reserve Hicks indefinitely suspended

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) -- Washington State starting defensive tackle A'i Ahmu and reserve safety Xavier Hicks Jr. were indefinitely suspended for violating team rules, a spokesman said Friday.

Sports information director Bill Stevens said coach Paul Wulff would decide later what sanctions the players will face. He declined to say what led to the suspensions, other than "a violation of team rules."

Hicks, 21, a junior who started three games last season, was charged Wednesday in Whitman County Superior Court with second-degree assault stemming from a dispute with roommate and teammate Grady Maxwell, according to court records.

Hicks, from Fullerton, Calif., is alleged to have put rubbing alcohol in Maxwell's contact lens case. Maxwell noticed something wrong with the lenses and did not put them on his eyes, court records say.
