Huskers star Purify gets probation
Receiver still awaiting word from Nebraska's Callahan

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Nebraska football player Maurice Purify pleaded no contest to four criminal charges Wednesday as part of a deal with prosecutors. He awaits word from coach Bill Callahan about how long his suspension from the team will last.

A Lancaster County judge sentenced the standout wide receiver to a year of probation and fined him $1,250.

During that time, Purify won't be allowed to enter a bar or any other business that primarily sells alcohol, and he'll have to attend drug and alcohol counseling.

And for 60 days, Purify will have the choice of either not driving or having a device attached to his car ignition that will make sure he is sober before he can start the car.

Purify was found guilty of driving while intoxicated, assault, disturbing the peace and hindering arrest. All those charges stem from two incidents earlier this year.

Saban suggest players may not get suspended

HOOVER -- Alabama coach Nick Saban suggested at SEC Media Days on Thursday that a trio of players who were recently arrested might not face suspensions.
Brandon Deaderick, Brandon Fanney and Roy Upchurch were all arrested on July 14 after an incident outside a bar on University Avenue in Tuscaloosa. Fanney and Upchurch were given misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, while Deaderick was hit with three misdemeanors: giving a false name, resisting arrest and third-degree criminal mischief.
"We will handle all discipline internally with our team," Saban said. "It will not be a public deal. These players have been given things they need to do and they are doing them. If they do them properly, learn from their mistakes, improve as people, then they won't face any suspensions or anything that will affect their ability to perform on the field.

Should be interesting to see if Butler is now brought back...

This was supposedly his third strike. Even if he's innocent in a court of law, it seems like being involved in this incident is awfully close to a third strike by itself.
