ND's Clausen cited for transporting alcohol

SOUTH BEND — Maybe someday Jimmy Clausen will make headlines for something he actually does on the football field — not for ornate announcements with stretch Hummers, not for clandestine elbow conditions, and, most recently, not for a minor scrape with the law.

It has recently come to light that the University of Notre Dame freshman quarterback was cited for transporting alcohol as a minor in connection with a June 23 incident at a local liquor store.

Indiana State Excise Police cited the 19-year-old Clausen and a 23-year-old outside the Belmont Beverage store at 1621 South Bend Ave., near the Notre Dame campus, police said.

I think it's safe to say that there are millions of Catholics that revel in ND's embarrassments.

Once we all shed this misguided notion that fairness should be a consideration in our treatment of either Michigan or Notre Dame the level of discourse on this board can only improve.

Quarless off team?

Penn State sophomore tight end Andrew Quarless has had his locker cleared out and may be off the team for good, according to a report late Saturday on fightonstate.com.

The Web site reported redshirt sophomore cornerback Willie Harriott also is off the team as coach Joe Paterno has sent a message to his club that he will not tolerate more off-field problems.
