Boise State's Robinson sentenced in bar fight case
BOISE, Idaho -- Suspended
Boise State player Jason Robinson has been ordered to spend 180 days in jail and pay at least $29,000 in restitution for breaking another man's jaw during a fight at a downtown bar.
Robinson pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery Tuesday in a deal with prosecutors. The judge suspended 160 days of a sentence that allows him to serve on a county labor crew instead of jail. Robinson must also serve two years' probation and complete 200 hours of community service.
Robinson apologized for his behavior and said he has learned a lesson. He was initally charged with a felony. But a felony conviction would have ended his eligibility for his athletic scholarship.
The 21-year-old safety was suspended in March by coach Chris Petersen and did not participate in spring drills.
Last season, Robinson made 26 tackles playing mostly on special teams.
