Iowa RB Hampton arrested near campus

Iowa running back Jewel Hampton was arrested early Saturday for public intoxication and underage presence at a liquor establishment after his alleged involvement in fights at an Iowa City bar.
Hampton, a candidate for Iowa's starting running back spot this fall, was arrested at 1:46 a.m. Saturday at Vito's, a restaurant and bar located near the University of Iowa campus. Police responded to Vito's after staff had reported a large fight in the back of the bar, Iowa City police Lt. Bill Campbell told ESPN.com.

Staff and patrons told police that Hampton, 20, had been causing problems. Hampton had a preliminary breath test reading at 2:35 a.m. that showed a blood-alcohol level of .091.
"Based on their investigation, officers determined that Mr. Hampton was actively involved in several physical confrontations within the bar," Campbell told ESPN.com.
In Iowa City, people under 21 aren't allowed to be at a bar after 10 p.m.
Bernstine, a cornerback, was arrested with Hampton and charged with public intoxication. Bernstine is over 21, so he won't face the underage charge.
Bernstine had a preliminary breath test reading that showed a blood-alchohol level of .127.
Hampton missed all of the 2009 season with a knee injury but participated in spring practice. He entered last summer as Iowa's projected starter after rushing for 463 yards and seven touchdowns as a true freshman in 2008, but he hurt his knee during voluntary workouts in July and reinjured it in preseason camp.

And they all pretty much get away with it as long as they don't try and fight the whole damn bar after a couple of drinks. :wink2:

That level of belligerence with that low a b.a.c. is indicative of some pretty serious issues. He'll have a hard time blaming the alcohol for this one.

Yeah, when you can't get two beers down without the cops having to come break up the fight you need to either give up the whole drinking thing or transfer to Penn State.

Might as well put this one here for when he's at Penn State

PHILADELPHIA (AP)?A video snippet from a Philadelphia Phillies broadcast shows a little boy in the stands appearing to take a swig from a beer bottle, creating a fresh headache for a ballclub whose fans have been drawing almost as much attention as its players.

The fuzzy video, which began making the rounds online and on TV on Monday, shows the child, who appears to be about 4, putting the bottle to his lips at Sunday?s Phillies-Padres game at Citizens Bank Park.

Suspended University of Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli is again in trouble with the law after a Springfield police officer stopped his vehicle and cited him Monday night on charges of possessing less than one ounce of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and failure to stop at a driveway or a sidewalk.

Masoli is scheduled to appear in Springfield Municipal Court on June 24, a court spokeswoman said. All three charges are non-criminal violations.

Gators' Hammond suspended after arrest

Associated Press
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida Gators receiver Frankie Hammond Jr. has been suspended from all team activities following his early morning arrest on charges of driving under the influence and possession.
Hammond is expected to be released from the Alachua County Jail following an initial appearance in front of a judge Sunday.
University police say Hammond, a 20-year-old sophomore expected to be part of Florida's revamped receiving corps, was speeding, swerving and driving with two open bottles of whiskey in his car Sunday morning.

Gators adopt ?if one falls, all fall? mentality | ONLY GATORS Get Out Alive

Director of strength and conditioning Mickey Mariotti, who leads the players during the summer when coaches cannot run practices, worked the team hard with a number of extensive drills (including ?stadiums? and ?snakes?) Monday evening. The tough workout was just the beginning of an indefinite period of disciplinary action, according to the source. The players were already enraged and none-to-happy with their teammate?s actions after the meeting, and the point appeared to be hammered in with gusto.
Meyer, who makes all punishment-related decisions alongside athletic director Jeremy Foley and school president Bernie Machen, may use redshirt sophomore wide receiver Frankie Hammond, Jr.?s DUI arrest to set an example for the rest of the team.
Ackerman said late Monday that he was ?hearing Hammond will be dismissed from the Florida football team,? but Meyer could be putting him on a probationary period similar to what Oregon did with running back LeGarrette Blount last season.
Then again, if Meyer decides to stay consistent with his punishment and treat this like similar situations in the past, the school will likely wait until the legal process has run its course before making a final decision on Hammond?s future.
For what it?s worth, OGGOA?s source called Hammond a ?good kid who has done everything right up until this point.? His grades are high, his behavior was consummate with what the team expected and he also completed plenty of community service work.

Hammond has already been placed on an indefinite suspension from team activities

I don't get why everyone is making such a fuss over this--it's not like the kid was gonna drive himself home. :roll2:
