Pittsburgh vs Washington: Second Round

I guess I've always viewed it a bit differently. I'd rather watch hockey than football any day of the week. You will never find me dozing off during a hockey game, but it happens all the time with football (not the Buckeyes).

I never found it difficult to follow. Even when I was a little kid. I used to play, but even before that I found the rules very appropriate and easily understood..

Let's get back on topic here - the Pens need to win game 2 and get that momentum going back to Washington. Take one on the road and it'll be tough for the Caps. The Pens have played better, but Varlamov has been outstanding.. A hot goalie plus that offense is deadly.

I hear ya guys... back in I dunno 1996 or so I wasn't a hockey fan at all! I moved from Akron then to a town near the Ohio/Pennsylvania Border (sitll in Ohio). Well the neighbord kid about my age LOVED the pens, and played hockey much like I did football. He got me into atleast playing around in the basement with me being goalie and eventually I gave in and watched a game.. Man was I hooked, and ever since then I've been just an enormous pens fan.

I plan on getting Center Ice again next year to watch the guys play. To be honest I also feel it's a better sport to attend then football. The level of respect the players seem to have for one another is outstanding, and there's less show boating then most sports.

Too bad ESPN doesn't pick up some games though because that's were it's gonna need to start. ESPN totally kicks hockey to the back of every Sportscenter show and really like stated before denies it's full potential. If they could just get on TV it would probably be a very popular sport here.

Hockey though is extremely expensive to play and kids can't always afford to play the game. Me being a goalie and having bought used pads a couple years back had to spend near 800 dollars of mismatching gear. Not everyone can afford that so that's a problem as well.

Nothing like Playoff Hockey tho... By far the most intertaining sport as far as post season play goes. Kills NFL, NBA, and Baseball by miles.

I've heard that ESPN is interested in getting back into the NHL. I think I read that in the Buccigros column. He's the one ESPN guy that's big into hockey (Melrose doesn't count).

I'm not sure when the Versus contract ends but if the hype machine could pick up at least a few games it would help.

The NHL is such a great game with the most fan friendly athletes of any of the big four professional sports. The only problem is that since the majority of their revenue comes from gate receipts, the ticket prices are high.

Gonchar was on his feet when he left. I'm not extremely worried, but I am worried.

Meanwhile...

I honestly think Satan is a much better playmaker at this stage in his career than he is a sniper. He's been making some beautiful feeds tonight with his 4th line guys and just there with Crosby. He'd look great on Staal's wing.

Well, fuck Ovechkin.

Great first period aside from that. Hope Gonchar is alright.. didn't look good..

Gonchar is out for the series...but Ovechkin got a 2 minute minor so it's even. :ohwell:

Ovechkin is a helluva talent who shouldn't have to resort to cheap shots. Sooner or later, that shit is going to come back at him.

Ugh, I'm so tired of Ovechkin. His first goal was lame, that one was nice hockey by the Caps. How he manages to score 42 times every game I'm not sure. Credit to him. Just wish he did a couple things differently.... like be humble and not do things like he did to Gonchar.
