I hear ya guys... back in I dunno 1996 or so I wasn't a hockey fan at all! I moved from Akron then to a town near the Ohio/Pennsylvania Border (sitll in Ohio). Well the neighbord kid about my age LOVED the pens, and played hockey much like I did football. He got me into atleast playing around in the basement with me being goalie and eventually I gave in and watched a game.. Man was I hooked, and ever since then I've been just an enormous pens fan.
I plan on getting Center Ice again next year to watch the guys play. To be honest I also feel it's a better sport to attend then football. The level of respect the players seem to have for one another is outstanding, and there's less show boating then most sports.
Too bad ESPN doesn't pick up some games though because that's were it's gonna need to start. ESPN totally kicks hockey to the back of every Sportscenter show and really like stated before denies it's full potential. If they could just get on TV it would probably be a very popular sport here.
Hockey though is extremely expensive to play and kids can't always afford to play the game. Me being a goalie and having bought used pads a couple years back had to spend near 800 dollars of mismatching gear. Not everyone can afford that so that's a problem as well.
Nothing like Playoff Hockey tho... By far the most intertaining sport as far as post season play goes. Kills NFL, NBA, and Baseball by miles.
