Pittsburgh vs Washington: Second Round

Actually Malkin is only making 3.8MM this year. (9MM next)

Shero is going to do something in the offseason with the Cap expected to drop.
Players Union may demand a cap increase, although it shall fail miserably.

The cap decrease is what horrifies me.

Yeah I know I've already taken into count Malkin's cap hit... the bottem line is if the cap goes down don't we have to move either Staal or Malkin? I mean can we really continue to roll these wingers out with 1 year deals etc?

I'd do anything to have 1 ELITE defenseman though. The Pens have never had an Elite guy if you think about it. Gonchar is a good Offensive Defenseman, but i'm talkin about an overall do it all defenseman. Like Pronger or something who can play defense and offense.

The one thing about Malkin though is that he is at least giving everything he's got and he's making some opportunities. They just aren't going in. I don't think we should forget his two seasons of dominance just because of two games. Two games that he has assists in for pete's sake. He needs to start scoring, but his chopped liver linemates need to do more as well.

I scoff at the idea of trading him. We just need to continually replace his linemates with pieces from our farm system. It will take a lot of work, but it isn't impossible. We signed Pierro-Zabotel today. We have Caputi, Tangradi (Who just had surgery, btw), and tons of others. We are in a tough position, but it isn't an impossibly tough position.

An ELITE defenseman like you're talking will cost way too much money, plus there are very few of them around. I,ve got no problem with Sarge and Orpik together and Letang has played well this year and will only continue to get better, in his own zone, with more experience.

I love Staal's defensive game and abilities on the pk, but if one player was traded to get relief, it would most likely be him, at least in the short term.

Too bad about Tangradi's hand. Maybe one of the youngs will impress at camp and get a chance to see if they can play on one of the top 2 lines. They all have some drawbacks, but Tangradi is clearly the top guy with the best chance to eventually earn a spot on the top 2 lines. What's the prognosis on his hand and recovery?

Kunitz has shown he can play with Sid and he's signed already. I guess they'll keep plugging in wingers until they find some that stick.

I'm on the side of NOT even thinking about trading Malkin. Never say never, in the long run, but he's going to be around for the first few years in the new barn.

Does Malkin Shave during the post-season?? He's never had a beard both years. If he is indeed shaving no fucking wonder he's not scoring all these goals!!

Also yeah I don't wanna think about trading Malkin either but man are those two guys' salaries killing this team. Oh well though I guess... I didn't know tangradi was hurt, but hopefully he gets better. I bet he'll be one of the guys who could really make the pens team next year and make a splash. Hopefully he's ok because he would look good next to Malkin or Staal!

geez.... a Lucky bounce off the backboard and about 4 amazing saves by that goalie again has Washington the lead 1-0 at the end of the first.

I have no idea how we're going to beat this goalie... dude is just unreal right now.

It's a shame Dupuis did what he did because he was having a tremendous game....How stupid can you be though? Take a penalty with 2:30 left in the game! That all but means they're atleast going to pull the goalie and get a 6 on 4. We deserve this game and I really hope we can close it out because damn would this one sting.

Three games straight the pens have really out played Washington. Got to gut this one out.

I'm surprised this board hasn't blown up yet after giving up that PP goal to the Caps. Tough luck.

I expected it to happen as soon as I heard the whistle for the penalty, and I don't think I'm alone. Just had a feeling that Malkin's goal wasn't going to be the game-winner.

Well I felt great that Malkin scored but as soon as I heard the whistle blow (I knew it was interference because it was blatant) I knew this game was OT bound.

Again the Caps with the man advantage with the possibility of them pulling their goalie was enough for me to know the odd's weren't with us.

Who knows though? Maybe if he doesn't take that penalty they score anyways?
