Pitt 13, West Virginia 9 (final)

The Big East needs to open a formal investigation of the referees in this game.

Worse yet, Pitt's now been the victim of pretty egregious calls three weeks running, with similar chicanery all but deciding their fate against Rutgers and South Florida. I can't help but wonder if a part of Wannstedt wants to string Mike Tranghese up like a pinata and take those crutches to him.

I watched the last quarter and a half when I got up this morning. Probably the most horrific one-sided officiating I have ever seen. The two holding calls were absolute bullshit, made just to take a TD and a first down off the books. Dear Big Least, the way to credibility is not having an officiating crew blatantly try to steer the outcome of your conference's supposedly outstanding team. Dumb asses. Maybe you should try and get ND to come, they'd fit in just fine.

Was the officiating that bad? I havent seen the replay of the game, and dont really care to.
The three calls discussed earlier in this thread were truly horrendous.

Tranghese's only crutch (likely borrowed from Wannstedt :)) is that the calls did not, in the end, prevent Pitt from claiming their dramatic upset.

But that is a weak position to take.

Oh yes.

WVU drives down the field, but comes up short on 3rd down. A WVU OL comes running into a Pitt DL after the play, the Pitt player shoves him back, and the WVU OL pulls a soccer dive and is rewarded with a new set of downs. Keep in mind a few minutes earlier they let two linemen spar for about 4 seconds after the play.

On Pitt's ensuing drive, a lineman comes flying towards a pile a few seconds late, a WVU player barely touches him, and is called for a personal foul. Basically the offensive player flew at him, and he merely protected himself with his arms and barely touched the guy.

Pitt scores a TD to go up 17-7, but somehow textbook blocking is called holding on WR #88. Horrendous call.

And THE worst, (w/ 3.5 min left) McCoy runs off tackle for a first down, past #88 again (with perfectly legal blocking), long after he runs past the first down marker, a flag comes flying in. Easily the most suspicious call of them all.

I did some poking around but couldn't find any details on the personnel -- was it this same bunch of jokers, I wonder?

These guys. PDF link
Officials: Referee: Tom Tomczyk; Umpire: Rick Feeney; Linesman: Kavin McGrath;
Line judge: John Salmon; Back judge: Paul Vargo; Field judge: Ben Vasconcells;
Side judge: Bruce Williams; Scorer: Mark DeVault;
Officials for Louisville Uconn link

Officials: Referee: Randy Smith; Umpire: Bruce Palmer; Linesman: Tom Considine;
Line judge: A.G. Moore; Back judge: Mark McAnaney; Field judge: Rich Street;
Side judge: Glenn Crowther; Scorer: Andrew Prince;
Different group. All their officials must suck.....

This post has been flagged for holding.

It was beyond bad!
The touchdown of Pitts they brought back was horrible! Pitt would of had more points on that WVU scoreboard!
The other 2 were just as bad,yep I watched the whole game which never intended to.
I'm happy for Pitt for a couple reasons!

Personal Foul. Fifteen yards. It remains 3rd down.
