WEST VIRGINIA UNBURNED COUCH DAY

Got this in an email today.

WEST VIRGINIA UNBURNED COUCH DAY

Announced today is a statewide communal demonstration of remembrance and sorrow known as Unburned Couch Day. Each year on December 1, WV citizens and WVU graduates across the country are asked to place an unburned couch in the front yard all day in remembrance of the greatest loss in Mountaineer history.

This practice will continue each year until the Mountaineers win the national championship. On that bright day, we will unite our couches as one in a glorious burning. Until then, we set aside December 1 - Unburned Couch Day - to remember.

The chart is derived from how far a team finishes from its pre-season ranking. That's fine and dandy. However, when I say overrated, I mean a team achieves lofty rankings in the middle of the season before getting exposed. South Florida is the perfect example. So they finish with a couple of ugly losses and falls back into the pack, they were still the most overrated team during the season at one point, when they were ranked #2 or #3 in the nation. The thing about WVU is that this was a team destined to play for the National Championship. You can point to charts and graphs all you want, but when you are talking about a team this close from sneaking into the title game, I'm sorry, that's just overrated. Same with the Notre Dame teams. They came pretty darn close to sneaking into the title game in '02 and during the Brady Quinn years. And believe me, if USC did not blow them out in the second half in '02, they would have gotten into that game in Tempe ahead of Ohio State, no doubt about it. That's what I mean when I say overrated.

no one was getting into the title game ahead of Ohio State in '02. there were only two undefeated teams.

I'm starting to think that we'll be looking back on this game someday as one that was far more important that we realized at the time. WVU wins and Dick Rod is coaching against tOSU on Monday instead of next November. Les Miles is the one roaming the sidelines at the Capitol One bowl while the media refers to the OU-LSU/GA Fiesta Bowl the "real national championship game." Depending on the futures of TSUN, LSU, and WVU, this may be looked upon some day as a game that changed the landscape of college football. Wouldn't that be something?

...and Pitt recruiting got a serious jumpstart after that game and will end up with an excellent class.

The power of the Big East is going to move to Pitt and USF over the next few years IMO. I think Wanny will start fielding the most talented teams in the next 2-3 years, while USF continues to recruit Florida well and actually has coaches who can "coach them up"

Don't count out Rutgers... the cupboard is far from bare

I'm still not sold on that program and I also believe Schiano bolts in the next 2 years. I think they'll struggle w/o Ray Rice next year especially, and their passing game isn't good enough to win games for them.

Only 4 schools in D1 had TWO rcvrs with each over 1000 yards
Guess who one of those four are...
Guess which school has both of those receivers coming back
Guess which school has the QB coming back

Guess which school had 300 yards and 3 TDs thru the air today

Can't disagree that Schiano leaves AFTER two years
and not convinced Ray Rice is leaving

They racked up stats for sure, but in tough Big East games this year, the passing game failed them. Just an opinion, but I don't see the potential at Rutgers like I do at USF and Pitt.

Schiano will go when the good recruits run out. if they don't he won't.

3 of the best New Jersey recruits left for other programs this year. He has definately turned the program around from the laughing stock it was, but I think he's hit his ceiling there. He's going to wait and see what happens with JoePa but even if he doesn't get the Penn St job I believe he moves on.

Rutgers has a decent class coming.. nothing superlative ... not really too far behind Pitt
but they have a 6'6 350 lb fullback
I saw him today.. wore #75 :wink2:
lead blocker for two of Rice's TD runs
we planned on using him at tackle
