PG Mike Conley (1st Team All BIG, NBA All-Star, Oscar Winner, Minnesota Timberwolves)

When was the last time a point guard did the following in a single season?
- Led his conference in assists (5th nationally)
- Led his conference in steals (22 nationally)
- Led his conference in assist/turnover ratio
- Set the single-season school record for assists
- Is on pace to break the single-season school record for steals
- Did not make first conference all-star team?

Either way you look at it those are impressive #'s. I think alot of times people can look more at pts than things like that...

Just gives him more reason to show all them coaches who is boss next year...

1st Team - Haluska, Neitzel, Oden*, Landry, Tucker*

which guy do you take out of the coaches list? i mean do you go with 4 gaurds and pull landry? food for thought.

neitzel. i know a lot of you dont like him. but he carried his team. no questions from me here.
haluska. good choice. i can debate this one maybe, but good choice.
tucker. some of you mentioned he "faded' during two games. possibly. but he followed those two up with his best game of the year possibly. and if 16 pts is "fading" not bad.
oden. switch oden and conley what do you guys think? no 5 on the list? i think not
landry. probably the weakest argument. but you have 1 g 2 wings and 2 big men. factor in hes a sr. avg 19 and 7. fine with me.

the reality is only five guys make the first team fair or not. its a solid list and carries more merit than anyother list ill see this year. including an aa list..

Tucker is also a forward, but since the standard for an all-anything team is 2 guards, 2 forwards, and a center, the general point still stands. You'd have to yank either Neitzel or Haluska, which would be tough to do, to include Conley (even though the All-BigTen team doesn't really have a true point guard)

I misunderstood the post as I thought he said all big ten team...But he said first...

I agree you can't put him ahead of Neitzel or Haluska...

i see it as 1 gaurd 2 wings(tucker being a 3/4 tweener wing) 2 bigs.

is conley one of the 5 best players in the league. lilkely, probably. but it doesnt necessarily work that way. if you put some logic to it, i think its a good list. i mean in football you arent going to put five linebackers on the all conference team. if you can accept that, you should be willing to accept the list.

edit. i have a hard time saying drew n. isnt a pg. i mean he plays off the ball a lot. in crunch time hes bringing the ball up the floor. if that team had any other scoring option hed be on the ball rather than off the ball. (though his production would go down, i think its a valid point)

A seat behind the end line is not considered prime, unless you?re a college basketball coach trying to study the moxie of your future point guard.

I am not trying to take anything away from Conley because he is a great player but one of the things that I think makes him even better than he really has been all season is because he has played with Oden for so long. Sometimes I think they know each other's moves especially when Mike takes it to the rack. He probably already knows where Oden is going to be.

Matta praises Conley

By Mark Gokavi
Staff Writer

Wednesday, March 14, 2007
COLUMBUS ? Thad Matta was probably joking Tuesday when he recalled watching Mike Conley Sr. play basketball.
"I remember Mike Sr. stealing the ball and jumping from the free throw line and dunking with two hands," Matta said. "It was the greatest dunk I'd ever seen in a game.

"I remember saying to myself at that point, 'If that guy ever has a young son, I'm going to recruit him.' I think I was 11 or 12 (years old)."

Conley Jr. is a fearless freshman point guard for the Buckeyes, teaming with a super crop of callow stars led by Greg Oden. Super could describe Mike Sr's Olympic career. He owns Olympic gold and silver medals in the triple jump.

How long do we think before Conley leaves for the NBA? I'm going to say Junior year will be his last year at tOSU. A young guard who will be learning more and more every year and is already one of the nation's best PG's as a freshman, I think he will no doubt be ready for the NBA after his Junior year.
